It was then, after so long, Amy felt happy….. Like she actually had a reason to live.
Her arm started to burn, then started to feel numb. The poison was already setting in.
"No!" She heard a distant British voice cry.
How stupid of me to do this…… was Amy's last thoughts before drifting into unconsciousness.
FOUR DAY'S EARLIER…
"Amy! Are you coming or not?" Eleven year old Dan Cahill shouted at his fourteen year old sister, Amy, who was slowly making her way to the big SUV their au pair, Nellie Gomez, had rented in a local New York City 'rent a car' place. Ever since Amy and Dan found out they were Madrigals, Amy had been quiet—not her normal bad mood, but just…quiet. Dan had took in this news completely natural, he ate a bag of chips, drank a diet coke, and boom, he was good to go.
Dan dove into the car when Nellie said she had a few more M and M's left from the airport. Amy's fear of crowds disappeared for a moment, she wandered through the crowd, searching for something, no not something, someone. She didn't know who, but she couldn't help but glance behind her every few moments.
"Amy!" Dan yelled from inside the car. "Hurry up!"
"Coming!" Amy yelled back, and she ran to meet her brother and au pair.
Ian stared glumly out of the limo window.
"Ian, please!" Natalie complained next to Ian in her silky British accent.
Ian turned his head slowly, if she had been trying to make conversation with him, he didn't hear it. "What?" She rolled her beautiful brown eyes at him. "Ian, honestly, can you hear very well? For the last time, what hotel did you make reservations for?"
Ian didn't answer, his heart beat slowly in his chest. He had this weird feeling like, he didn't know his sister at all. Or his mother and father, right now, he felt completely lost. His mum went back to their mansion in London, and he felt depressed. Something bothered him, and for the first time, he felt alone, all around him was black, he tried to run, but couldn't. He was lost, there was no doubt about it.
Nellie had checked in to the Penninsula Hotel, Dan was excited because that hotel had that mini refrigerator thing.
"Amy, please don't let Dan get fat. I'm gonna go to the lobby for twenty minutes. Do not go anywhere, don't answer the door, don't answer the phone. Nothing! Please." And Nellie was out the door, one earphone dangling out of her head.
Amy sighed as she put her backpack down on the sopha. It was only two minutes before Dan had a chocolate bar in his hand, and a coke next to him on the table beside the second sopha.
"Dan," Amy started to say, "Nellie doesn't want you to be fat. Personally, you already are fat, but, oh well…"
Dan threw a pillow at Amy's head and missed.
And before they knew it, it had turned into a pillow fight. Until the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it!" Dan shouted. Amy shook her head, "Dan, don't! Nellie said not to."
Dan rolled his eyes, "oh please, Amy. You're such a baby." Amy's face reddened. "Am not!" She cried.
"Are too!"
"Dan, shut up! Just don't answer the door." But Dan was already at the door when it whoever was on the other side force-opened it.
The next thing Dan remembered before a black out was a sly smile and then a gun- shot.
