She doesn't honestly expect to see him again—and half the time she almost manages to convince herself she doesn't ever want to see him again—but she has long stopped locking the front door at night. Even with the constant threat of the mysterious A, she always makes sure to turn on the outside lights before she goes to bed.
When she doesn't believe Caleb ran out on her because he didn't care, she convinces herself he left because he was in trouble…that he'll come back when everything's better.
She doesn't know what she expects. That she'll wake up one morning and he'll be making her breakfast, that she'll go into her bathroom to take a shower and he'll be there; she's not sure exactly, all she knows is she refuses to give up.
One morning, when her alarm wakes her up, she turns over to shut it off and is blocked.
Caleb groans and turns to her. "Your alarm is irritating," he mutters.
Hanna grins sleepily. "You're back," she says.
"I'm sorry," he says. "I should have never left."
