Just a little drabble. There will be more (some longer, some short like this probably), all surrounding the Hummel (and later Hummel-Hudson) family. Pairings include those in canon and Blaine/Kurt—even though we do not yet know if it is Blaine who will be Kurt's boyfriend this season. All we know is that he gets one. So if Klaine/Blurt is not your cup-of-tea, feel free to skip any that focus on their relationship as well as Burt—cause Burt will be someway involved in every story, probably, unless it focuses on Finn and Kurt.
Disclaimer: Sadly, I do not own any of the awesomeness that is Glee. If I did, Blaine and Kurt would be canon, Karofsky would get some help, and Kurt would be the main character.
Burt Hummel never did think he would be the type to be a good father. His years in high school had taught him that. He had been one of those boys taunting and pushing the weaklings around. Definitely not good husband material and even worse father material.
Then Kathleen came along—a girl so stubborn and out-spoken it was almost funny. She knew what she want and she knew how to get it, and Burt couldn't help but fall in love with her as fast as it took him to turn on Mellencamp.
He could honestly say that he had made no easier decision than to marry that girl and he thanked the God that was out there for blessing him with her. It was because of that simple decision he was now here in the hospital room holding his son for the first time.
The boy's loud cries had filled the air almost at once and the doctor had chuckled, stating, "Your son sure has got a pair of lungs on him."
Burt grunted, not being able to keep the smile off of his face as he was handed the new-born child. "Got that from his mother," Kathleen smiled weakly at that, panting as sweat rolled down her face.
Carefully, Burt handed her the baby boy as a nurse asked, "What's his name?"
"Kurt," Kathleen answered, staring lovingly down at him. "Kurt Hummel."
As he watched his wife hold their son—Kurt, he thought with another small smile—he had a mix of emotions. How was he going to do this? He had tried to prepare, but how could you prepare for taking care of another life? Something so small and innocent? Yet, it would be worth it when he could sit with his son watching football games and talking about girls. It was probably a father's dream to be able to do all of that with his son, and Burt would be able to in the future.
He would teach him about cars and the things girls liked. Maybe he and Kathleen could even give him a sibling later on. Who knew? But Burt promised himself that he would be a good father. That no matter what, he would be there for his child, because wasn't that what a good father was supposed to do?
