Author's note:
Hello, and thanks for coming to read my first story!
Listen, I think Gnomeo & Juliet is still a funny, enjoyable film. Despite the fact Sherlock Gnomes (like most sequels) ruined its reputation, the original still has its funny moments, a (somewhat) original love story, and a great cast of characters. But of all of those characters, Featherstone is the most underrated. He's NOT just the 'funny unnecessary side character' okay?! He brings the plot forward, he has emotions and feelings, and he had a very tragic past. Yet most people just brush him off! (heck he wasn't even in the sequel!)
Well I've had it, and I'm giving this poor flamingo the story he deserves.
If you haven't read the description somehow, this will be Gnomeo & Juliet from Featherstone's P.O.V. But first, I'll be diving into his past here at the beginning. (And yes, I own Gnomeo & Juliet on DVD!)
Hola, before I begin, please, please excuse my English, it's not the most perfect.
Now since you're here, you've probably already heard the love story of my two amigos, but you don't quite know my love story very well.
My name is Featherstone, I'm a plastic pink lawn flamingo, and for a lot of my life, I've lived in the long forgotten Lawrence garden, although not completely in the way I wanted to.
I'm different from most garden ornaments, mainly I can get excited and anxious easily. Because of this, people normally see me as being a happy, funny, and somewhat crazy bird who always looks for some fun. But truthfully, I've suffered from loneliness for many years, and it wasn't even my choice. Even though my years alone still hurt me to this day, I glad knowing now I'll never go through it again. Plus, my lonely experiences changed the minds of my friends and made everything better. So, in a way, I'm glad they happened.
I could say more, but then again it would spoil everything I'll say later. For now, my story begins many years ago, on the day I feel my life began. The day I first arrived in the once beautiful Lawrence garden.
Alright, a bit of background first. The garden was owned by Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence, (amazingly I never got their names) a young, married couple who loved each other dearly. To cherish their love, they bought a beautiful grand Victorian house, with an equally beautiful garden that had everything a gardener could ask for. A small greenhouse for plants, a tiny shed for tools, a little pond filled with lily pads, smooth green grass, vibrant white flowers and lush green bushes and trees... truly a magnificent setting...
Anyway, they went and bought some things for the garden too. So on a bright spring afternoon with a cloudless blue sky and a cool breeze, The Lawrences trimmed up their garden with what they bought, and they had just one small cardboard box left. Mrs. Lawrence placed that box down by the pond in the center of the garden. She opened the box flaps and took out, well myself!
As she placed me down, I stayed completely still in a standing position, not even blinking. As much as I enjoy walking around, we garden ornaments must hide the fact we're alive and not move in front of humans. I could however see my reflection in the pond water. Pink plastic feathers, metal pole legs, long neck, yellow beak, and cute beady eyes, I was still me!
Then Mr. Lawrence walked over by his wife's side, then took someone else out from the box. He took out another lawn flamingo, a female lawn flamingo. Her name was Flora, my beautiful wife that I loved more than anything else in the world.
*sigh* Flora, her name still warms my heart. Me and her have been together for years before the Lawrences chose to buy us. To think when I first met her, I thought we were completely different (apart from us both being flamingos). I was excited, funny and... not the brightest, while she was quiet, calm and elegant. However, we both felt that we were pretty lonely. After a bit, we got to really know each other and even learned about each other's passions. I taught her some Spanish (in fact she knew some French), and she taught me some graceful dancing! We saw that we were truly happy together. Overtime, we declared our love for one another and became a magnifico couple. We truly were lovebirds.
Mr. Lawrence placed her down right if front of me, she too stayed still and up-right. If the Lawrences weren't right by us I would have winked and gave her a smile. He placed her so she mirrored me perfectly, if it wasn't for her painted eyelashes we'd look probably the same. I couldn't help blushing as I saw our reflection in the pond formed a heart shape. Although my feathers are pink so it didn't matter.
"See? They look cute by the pond together.", Mrs. Lawrence said, "I'm glad we bought them."
"Yeah, they remind me of the two of us.", Mr. Lawrence replied with a chuckle.
If only they knew we were a cute couple too...
"Heh... Anyway, I'm also glad you found that Macallister Ranger at such a low price!", she replied.
"I know, And it's a classic model too! I mean, what were they thinking giving away...", They walked over to their outdoor chairs and table as they continued their conversation. But of course, me and Flora both had to stay still until the Lawrences went in. I honestly didn't listen because I didn't care. I just wanted them to callate, go inside, and let me spend the rest of the day with my true love already!
Finally, after like fifteen minutes or something, the Lawrences happily headed into their new home, and I couldn't stay still a moment longer.
The second the backyard door closed, our blank expressions became smiles, the short gap between us disappeared, and we both gave out a grande reliving sigh.
"Dieu merci... Featherstone, I thought they would never stop chatting!", Flora said with an angelic voice, soft and soothing as fabric.
"Aye-yai-yai, I know!", I replied, "...But it's still nice to know that they're happy together, isn't it?"
"Yeah... they remind me of us!", she said giggling, and I laughed back. "So, *giggle* where do you think they put the bench?"
"...What bench?", I replied confused.
"They mentioned a garden bench while they were chatting, I figured they already put it out here...", she replied.
Intrigued, I took a quick glance around my new garden home, and noticed something wooden in the shade of a tree by the greenhouse.
"Hey, I think that's it!", I said pointing my beak toward it, and we quickly walked over.
"Huh, I expected something a bit... bigger.", she said at the closer look of it.
The bench was rather small, only about my height. They probably got it just for decoration. It was also painted bright blue and very simple, with short legs, a flat polished seat, and a short wooden backing... which had a bright pink heart engraved into it.
"Actually, I think it's kind of cute, especially with that heart! I think even we could sit in it.", I replied.
"Hmm...you're right, I suppose we could sit and chat.", she said, then I nodded and sat down with her.
Surprisingly, we got a great view of the whole garden from that little bench, all of which was so alluring. I gazed at all of the lively scenery, the pristine greenhouse, the vibrant flowers, the calm quiet pond, and the grand two-story house which tied everything together. How could no-one not immediately fall for its aura?
"Flora, this is just fantastico.", I said happily.
"Being part of this garden?", she replied.
"No, sitting on this ben- Yes being part of this beautiful garden! With you!", I said ecstatically, "We've always talked about the beautiful gardens in photos, and now we live in the most beautiful garden I've ever seen!"
"Oui, I think it's gorgeous!", she said happily, "And we can help keep it beautiful together, even if we don't know that much about gardening."
"Hey, we'll still make so many memories here, even if we don't know nothing about gardening. Plus we can always learn from the Lawrences!", I replied.
"I know, but it's still completely new to me... It's crazy, this is the first garden we both were ever in, yet I somehow already feel a connection to it.", she replied softly.
"Are you saying that like it's a bad thing?", I said.
"No! not at all!", she replied, "It's just... living here will be fun and exciting, but at the same time new and different..."
Before I replied, I thought about that response for a momento, she wasn't wrong...
I sighed lightly then put my one of my pole legs on her side to reassure her. She was looking toward the garden, seemingly lost in thought.
"Well no matter what happens here... I will always love you with all my heart, mi amor.", I said calmly.
She looked back at me with her beautiful black eyes, which gave me feelings of happiness and comfort.
"I will always love you too.", she said quietly as a heartwarming smile appeared on her beak.
I smiled as we held each other with our necks and nuzzled the tips of our beaks, embracing our true love in the beauty of nature. This garden would be a new world for the both of us, but back then I felt that it would bring us nothing but love and happiness.
At least, I thought that it would...
Alright, that was chapter uno! Thanks for reading, and I hoped you enjoyed it so far! I'm satisfied with it, even though took a while for me to write.
Please leave reviews if you enjoyed it! Seriously, writing without getting feedback is like trying to drive without tires, nothing results from it.
I do plan to continue this! Until then, I'm out!
