She knew it was doomed from the very beginning. Okay maybe that was exaggerating a little.
She didn't like him at first. Heck she knew way way better. She wasn't that delusional. They started off their introductions with him calling her another girl's name. Relieved that she was okay.
Hardly endearing or romantic by any means. But it was weird, and cute, and funny in an odd way. No one else ever ever would mistake her for someone else. She was too loud, pushy, obstinate, annoying, whatever, take your pick. She was memorable. Distinct. Except maybe not now. Conks in the head can do that to a person though. Leon never was one to go easy. And so she easily forgave the new boy, had a good laugh, and wondered at this girl who obviously held his heart.
Kairi huh?
Looked like she'd have some material to tease him with later. It would be great to finally have a friend her own age! Even if he was the Keyblade wielder.
She got to be the one, or at least one of the ones, who got to explain what that meant as well. It turns out he didn't know. And Leon was hardly delicate about it either. This whole business had been eating him up for way too long. The guy was jealous of a kid probably younger than her. Then again she could understand the feeling. She was a little nervous too. If she had to pick which one of them she wanted to have save the world it would have been Leon. Easily. Nothing against the new guy. Sora, she reminded herself. It was just that, well, look at them: gawky awkward teen vs grown man. Not that she really had room to talk.
Maybe that was why she ended up liking the guy so much, that mutual feeling of a bond as they were both kids and didn't look like all that much. The underdogs who would have to prove their worth.
Or maybe it was just who he was. Even after getting completely trounced by Leon, being told that the world rested on his bony shoulders, and being told that his friends were gone who knows where, he was able to handle it. No tears, no break-downs. He even managed a few small smiles and things at her jokes as she led him around to test out his new powers, which she assured him were awesome. He could pick any lock! Any! They had to team up some time. He even smiled when she made him promise that.
Not to say he was happy about it all and not to say it was love at first sight or anything like that either on her part. Who was stupid enough to fall madly in love with a boy clearly interested in someone else? So instead she wished him luck and felt grateful that she was pretty sure she'd made a new friend.
It was what came later that was accidental.
