Goodbye Glimmer, for you have shined like the stars above.
The Careers sleep under the tree where Katniss resides, planning to kill her when then morning rolls over.
Unbeknownst to them, Katniss arises before they wake. As the minutes pass, she begins to cut a branch where a massive tracker jacker nest lay.
The nest falls, the tracker jackers furious. The Careers wake up to the sound of tracker jackers buzzing, the latter escape.
Poor, poor Glimmer, unable to escape in time.
She flails, she tumbles, she screams—the tracker jackers sting, sting, sting. Venom coursing through her bloodstream makes the heartbeat go away.
[ten, nine, seven, eight, six]
Screaming one more time, her eyes close, the world slowly fading away. Her body, unable to move anymore, is frozen on the spot.
[five, four, three, two, one]
The sound of the cannon blares and the games take their thirteenth victim.
Glimmer, District One—dead.
