A/N: Good mornight. :)

I wasn't really planning to write something like this, but something urged me to. I don't know. I'm sleepy. -yawns-

I'm sorry if it's kinda random, 'cause you see, it was out of nowhere and was written by a sleep-deprived authoress. The first sentence was the whole idea, as it was the same as Shinichi's current status in some DC fanpage in FB,

Blabla. I won't say anything anymore. Just proceed, and please do review if you think I still can do something productive despite being - well, dtunk.

Beware of grammar and spelling errors by the way.

Happy birthday to Shinichi. :)

And good night. :D

Birthday Greeting

by Zero-onE001

It's 12:19 AM and it's already the 4th of May. Will she even greet me?Shinichi thought grimly as he stared out of the window, looking at nothing and listening to the raindrops that fell rhythmically against the roof of his abode.

He inwardly sighed. It was silly of him to wait for herto greet him when the day had just begun—and it wasn't even day yet, as it was only midnight.

But even so, his fan club had greeted him a happy birthday at exactly twelve, bringing noise to his room as they greeted him through his phone—which was thrown somewhere under the bed as it was blaring some annoying tune, much to Shinichi's dismay.

Furthermore, Ran had wished him Happy Birthday during midnight many times the past few years already, so he got kinda used to it and secretly wished to himself that the girl would always be the first to greet him in his birthdays.

The house phone rang annoyingly, and Shinichi let out an exhausted groan. Perhaps he should sleep already. There's no point watching a pot until it boiled—especially when the stove wasn't even turned on.

The renowned high school detective picked up the phone and placed it near his ear—who would even call in this late at night, anyway? It pissed him off.

"Hello."

"Thank God," his previous thoughts instantly flew out of the widow and danced with the rain, and Shinichi felt his chest heave lightly. A smile made its way across his lips.

So she did plan to greet him.

"I thought something happened. I can't connect to your phone. Sigh. I thought I'd have to run all the way there in this heavy rain…" he almost chuckled at the anxious tone of voice of the girl on the other end of the line. Maybe he shouldn't have answered the phone then.

"Shinichi. Shinichi?"

"Ah. Ran?" he responded, scratching the back of his head stupidly.

"Are you asleep?"

"No, not really."

"Heh. Thought so." he could almost sense a grin after that. "Anyway, Happy Birthday. Mou. I actually planned to greet you at exactly twelve so it'd be cool. But I guess we really couldn't ask for that..."

Ran continued babbling, but Shinichi wasn't picking her words out. It was just her voice he wanted to hear…

"…keh, I'd bet it's your fans—"

"Ran?"

"…doing it—eh?"

Shinichi smiled serenely. "Thank you."

There was a pause, and the only sound that reached Shinichi's ears was the soft random noise at the other end of the line. Ran smiled—he really didn't know: he just deduced it by the soft huff of breath followed by a noise that seemed like a tight gripping of the receiver.

"You're welcome."

It's only 12:30 AM but it seems like my day's finally complete.
