I was terrified that my name would be the one they chose. This was my first year so my name was only in there once, my sister would not allow it to be in there anymore. Still, my stomach hurt with the feeling of nervousness. And if I didn't get picked, what if my sister Katniss did? If Katniss was gone, I don't know how I would survive. It would be just like I were too in the games. I waited next to the other kids my age as Effie walked onto the stage. "Ladies first" she said and walked over to the bucket with all the girls names in it. I crossed my fingers and saw the girl next to me do the same, hoping my name would not be called. "Primrose Everdeen" she said. I didn't know what to do, my mind just went blank. Everyone around me was staring at me with gloomy, depressed eyes. Finally, I got my feet to move and walked towards the stage. I saw my sister in the audience, crying. She started to walk towards me, I knew what she was going to try and do. She was going to volunteer for me. I quickly shook my head no in her direction. She shook her head yes and mouthed "Pim, no". I mouthed back "its ok" and walked onto the stage. I held back my tears so the capitol wouldn't think I was weak but mostly so Katniss wouldn't try and volunteer for me. "And now for the boys" Effie said. She walked over to the jar with the boys names in it and pulled a name out. "Peeta Mellark" she said. I saw him walk onto the stage and recognized him as the baker's son. We shook hands and I was taken into a room where I was allowed to see my family for a few minutes. When Katniss and my mother walked in, tears started to form in my eyes. "Oh Prim, why wouldn't you let me volunteer for you!" was the first thing Katniss said. I knew I probably should have let her; she would have at least had a chance winning the games. I don't know what I was thinking; I just didn't want my sister to go into the games. "Prim! You have never even been into the woods. You have never used a weapon!" Katniss was crying now. "I can't let you go into these games! They will kill you! Oh Prim!" At that moment they opened the door and said it was time for Katniss and mom to leave. "Prim!" Katniss yelled. "You're fast and small! Stay hidden! Prim, you can do this. Ok, little duck, you can win." I knew she was just saying this to make me feel better but I shook my head yes in agreement. I didn't know what to say to her. Bye Katniss, I will never see you again. You are the best sister I have ever had. Instead I just went with "Katniss, be nice to Buttercup." She smiled and said "I will Prim, for you I will." With that they were gone and I was left in the room by myself. What would happen now I didn't know.
