"Sherlock, come on!" Mycroft shouts. He was busy running while clutching the package of meats they found in a destroyed butcher shop. "I have small legs, Myc!" The seven year old bounds after the fourteen year old. "Dive!" Sherlock shouts over a bomb screaming like it's rising from Hell as it falls from the Heavens. It blasts just a mile from them and they hide from the after blast behind some rubble of an orphanage. "Come on. We're not too far from our shelter." Mycroft takes Sherlock's hand and they run quickly through the remains of Baker Street. They get to a tunnel and run to their home. "It's cold down here." Sherlock whines as Mycroft starts the fire. "I know, little brother, but stay huddled in the blanket." Mycroft wraps his brother in the blanket he took from their destroyed house and kept fighting for a fire. Sherlock sneezes and the fire starts up just as Mycroft sets a match in. "Please tell me you're not getting sick." Mycroft worries as he feels the smaller boy's forehead. Sherlock sniffs and yawns. "It's dusty in here." Sherlock pouts. He watches as Mycroft puts the meat on a dented frying pan and sets it over the fire. "Dusty, but safe." Mycroft shrugs. Sherlock nods and scoots closer to his brother. It's only been the first week of the bombings and they had already lost so much. Parents had left them along, cold, and hungry. "I miss Mum and Da." Sherlock sniffs and Mycroft rubs his back. "I know. I'm here for you, little brother, just as you are here for me. I don't want to lose you, so please stay close when we go out scavenging." Mycroft wraps his arm around his brother and Sherlock snuggles under him. "I think the meat's done." Mycroft pulls it off the fire and pulls out a couple forks and a couple knives from his duffle bag. "You take the first bite." Mycroft hands him the silverware and Sherlock cuts a small piece. "Needs salt." He says as he chews his bite. Mycroft nods and they savor each bite they take, knowing this was a prize that would be hard to come by in the days to come. They don't know how long this dark storm of howling bombs and their city destroyed, but they knew that they had to stay together through this because that's all they have; each other.
Short, I know, but I'm still working on plot and stuff. Suggestions welcomed!
