It's so cold.
Why is it all so cold?
A lone boy sat atop a church tower, looking down at the bustling little town under his dangling feet.
He rubbed his hands together.
So cold. So cold.
His breath came out in tiny crisp crystals billowing in little clouds.
His staff against his shoulder, the clothes on his back the only belongings.
They are all so happy down there.
So warm.
He wrapped his arms around himself.
I'm so cold.
So cold I feel alone.
So alone I feel cold.
He watched them smile and laugh and embrace each other. Their noses red with cold but cheeks flushed and rosy as they warmed themselves by the open fire.
He remembered the feeling of the people passing through him.
Like he was a ghost.
Like he didn't exist.
I can never do that now.
I can never feel warm again.
I can never touch my family.
He flinched, a sharp pang in his heart.
Oh, that's right.
I don't have a family.
I don't even know who I am.
I don't have anything.
I'm just alone.
And cold.
So very very cold.
The boy grabbed his staff. Embedded ice gems reflecting soft white light.
No.
That's not true.
I do have something.
I have a name.
Jack.
I'm Jack Frost.
No one knows me now.
But one day.
I don't know how.
But I'll find a way.
Someday,
Someone will say my name.
And someday, this cold won't be so painful anymore.
Someday someone will reach out and touch me. Then maybe this cold won't bother me so much anymore.
Disclaimer: I don't own Rise of the Guardians, or Jack Frost, or Frozen for that matter.
