When You Smile, the whole world stops…
{This is set just after Raven came down in Season 1!}
Clarke rarely smiled anymore, she didn't see the point. She used to smile around Fin but now he just made her angry. So here she was, by the lake, wallowing in her regret. Suddenly she heard footsteps behind her. She turned quickly, knife at the ready and she was shocked when she saw that it wasn't a grounder but the last person she wanted to see at the moment.
Bellamy.
All Clarke wanted was to just sit here alone and didn't feel like discussing what to do with the remaining supplies or have an argument.
"Hey Princess, why the long face?" he said gently. His tone shocked Clarke, it was softer than she had ever heard it.
"Nothing Bellamy, I don't feel like arguing today. OK?"
"Ow it hurts that you don't want to be near me. Everyone wants to be near me." Clarke rolled her eyes at his ego coming out.
"Just go away Bellamy."
"Not a chance of that Princess," he said as he sat next to her. She instinctively leaned into him without really realising that she did it. He then wrapped his arms around her protectively and she sighed her emotions out.
They sat like this for a long time. Neither of them speaking. It wasn't a bad silence, it was very comfortable. They just needed each other's presence. Clarke needed somebody, just somebody she thought to herself. But then she rethought it. If Jasper or Monty had come to her would she have sat like this? No. She realised that she found comfort in Bellamy. That him being around made her feel safe and that the grounders wouldn't be able to hurt her. Clarke needed Bellamy. She loved that. She had never needed anyone before. On the Ark she didn't need anyone to survive. She thought that was the same here on Earth. But she was wrong.
"Thank you Bell." She whispered.
"For what?"
"For being here. You always make me feel better."
"Always?" Bellamy raised and eyebrow questionably.
"Well, there are times when you annoy the hell out of me but times like this you drag me out of my sulking and that is good."
"All in a days work for me. Seeing as I am your knight in shining amor Princess!"
And that made her smile. Not just a tweek of the corners of her mouth but a prober smile. Bellamy stopped. His mind shut down at the girl wrapped in his arms smiling up at him. She truly was he most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
"When you smile, the whole world stops…" he muttered, trailing off at the end.
She leaned up and pressed a kiss to his cheek. Maybe there was hope for them.
