Chapter One
She faded in and out of consciousness, her vision bleary and heartbeat weak. She was dying, she had to be. The last thing she remembered was falling from a building. But she couldn't seem to recall if she was pushed, or fell willingly? -In either case, it certainly would explain why she hurt so much. And also why she had a migraine that made her feel as if her head was about to explode.
She breathed in deeply, and slowly began to exhale. A coping mechanism to help her calm down. It was too noisy, and it made her frustrated since she was already in a bad enough mood, to begin with. And who could blame her, really? Between knowing that you were about to die, being in agonizing pain, and having a migraine, who wouldn't be in a sour mood?
Hearing the angry shouts in between screams of pain, and the familiar sound beeping machinery grow louder, she wanted to scream. And faintly, as she recognized the smell of cleaner and bleach; inwardly, she groaned. She was in a hospital, and she loathed hospitals with a passion. But then she surmised, that it didn't matter if she was in a hospital or not. She would be dying soon enough anyway.
And wasn't that a grim thought? To be accepting and wanting death to greet her?
"Romulus." The tired, but proud sounding voice of a British woman said. "Her name will be Romulus."
She opened her eyes, struggling at first before finally, they lifted. And she found herself staring at a bright white light and winced. And then the light cleared and she found herself looking up into a giant woman's sweaty, exhausted face. How...why...huh?
Any rational thought disappeared as her mind froze, as she thought that this had to be some kind of a sick and twisted joke. But as she blinked, the woman smiled at her and leaned forward before promptly placing a kiss on her forehead. This woman -whoever, she was- was not a figment of her imagination. And as the world began to blur, and her eyelids started to become heavy with sleep, she did the only thing reasonable when she felt someone's hand smack her bottom.
She screamed.
