An
Apology
By SMYGO4EVA
People ask for forgiveness, even if they know that a certain sin cannot be atoned for; still, they wish for the redemption that they seek and the release that they want to purify their souls. Some accursed people are damned to rot in the prisons they made for themselves, to be condemned for the sin they committed, and to stay in solitude till a higher power feels the need to call them back to reality. All that this individual can do is wait, just wait and ignore the truth of what they did.
Do you want to know what this sin was? You do? I thought so. Well, this very offense is both denial and the ignorance of one's feelings of affection. This person, Mai Valentine, ignored emotion and feelings just so she wouldn't feel weak and unwanted, so she would save herself from the pain that was around her all her life. She chose to pay no heed to the softness of his eyes when he looked at her, to see that as just pity and nothing else. She chose to forsake friendship in lieu of the real sense of belonging, of which everyone wants sometime. No one can be alone forever, can they?
No. They cannot be alone. Without someone, they will wait in the cell for the person to comer forward to them instead of the other way around. Mai thought that letting the person, Joey Wheeler, come to her first was a sign of power. Well, it wasn't. It meant that she was afraid, terrified of being loved and getting hurt at the same time. She didn't know what was going to happen and she didn't know what the future would hold for them. All that she knew was that she had to be set free, to be free from the chains that bound to the cell that she created, so that she would feel the love that she rightfully deserves.
She wants forgiveness for the sin, to hear his voice and to know that her apology was enough for her soul's salvation. That's all she wanted: an apology to save her from herself.
