Rain poured down in thick, icy sheets as Dean Winchester broke down in front of his brother's grave. He set a cold beer in the grass and choked back a sob. It should've been me, Dean thought. Sammy never deserved this. I should've been there. Dean fell to his hands and knees, overcome by grief. Sammy was gone, and he couldn't bring him back.

"Dean."

The raspy voice brought Dean back to stark reality. He slowly stood up and turned around.

"Cas."

Before he could stop himself, the hunter flung his arms around the angel and sobbed into his shoulder. Cas, unsure what to do, awkwardly placed his arms around Dean.

"Sammy's gone, Cas," Dean moaned into Cas' shoulder. "He's really gone."

Cas hugged Dean tighter. "I am so sorry, Dean."

"I can't find a demon who'll make a deal. I can't bring him back!" Dean began to cry harder.

"Its not your fault, Dean. There was nothing you could do."

Dean broke free of Castiel's grasp. "I should have warned him quicker! I saw the hole first! I was supposed to protect him, Cas, and now he's gone!"

He turned and sank to his knees at the grave. He kept seeing Sammy slip and tumble to his death in the construction site where they were investigating. Dean had climbed down after him, but it was too late. Sam's crumpled body had ceased breathing.

Cas sat down behind Dean and wrapped his arms around him, enveloping the shivering man with his warmth. Dean turned and cried against Cas' chest. "I-it was my job. He's gone..."

The angel held Dean closer as tears began to run down his cheeks. He ran his hand through Dean's hair and rubbed his back with the other. Dean looked up and kissed Cas tenderly on the lips. "You're all I have left now."

Castiel took off his trenchcoat and wrapped Dean up in it. "Dean," he whispered. "I made sure that Sam's soul made it to Heaven. That's why I took so long." He clutched Dean's face in his hands. "You're all I have left, too." Cas pressed his mouth to Dean's.

The kiss was salty and wet, and Dean decided it was time to go. He couldn't look at the grave anymore. He pulled away from Cas and put his hand on it.

"I love you, Sam. I'm proud of you." He choked out.

With that, Dean walked out of the graveyard with Cas, never looking back.
