A/N: This is CSIGeekfan's fault… I've spent all day reading her work, and then my fluff muse jumped up and made me write this…Not beta'd.
"Have dinner with me."
The request made her head snap up from the paper she was reviewing.
"What?"
"Have dinner with me," he repeated.
"Dinner..."
"Yes."
"You want to have dinner."
"Yes."
"With me."
He sighed. "Yes. I would like to take you to dinner. You remember what that meal is, right?"
She smirked a little. "For us or the normal people?" she asked.
"Us. Dinner. Just us. Before shift."
"I have breakfast before shift," she interrupted him.
"Fine. After shift. Whenever. Have dinner with me."
Before she could give an answer, they were interrupted by Warrick and Nick entering the break room. Suddenly realising where they were, he stood.
Pausing in the doorway, he said, "Just… just think about it, ok?"
Warrick and Nick glanced at each other, before their attention turned to the brunette in the room.
"Hey girl, you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"What was that about?" Nick asked, nodding his head in the direction the other man had gone.
"Nothing. It… nothing. I'm going to see if the DNA results are in…" she said, as she followed her would-be dinner companion out of the room.
Warrick and Nick looked at each other, confusion etched in their features.
"What do you think that was about?"
"Who the hell knows with those two, man?"
Warrick laughed, nodding his head in agreement.
The sound of their banter faded as she made her way into the DNA lab, only to see he was waiting for her, leaning against the table.
Suppressing a smile, she asked, "Something I can do for you?"
He gave a half smile in response, and he could swear her breath hitch, just a little. Apparently the DNA lab, empty but for the two of them, was a more controlled area, for him at least.
"Have dinner with me. Please?"
It was the tone that finally made her look at the man before her, taking in everything she had noticed but tried to hide noticing for so long.
The small smirk, the blue eyes, the slightly greying hair that made him look distinguished rather than old.
Almost sensing his win, he added, "I'll let you pick the place, the time, let you drive yourself… heck, I'll even let you pay your half if you really insist… just have dinner with me."
Curiosity got the better, and she asked, "Why? Why now? Is this some mid-life crisis or something? Oh god, you're not dying are you?!"
He laughed a little at that. "No, nothing that drastic… I just… someone once said, for a genius, I was an idiot… I don't want to be an idiot anymore. Let me take you to dinner."
"Actually, I said you were pretty dumb for a smart guy," Wendy corrected him.
Seeing Hodges deflate a little, she smiled. "But, ok David, I'll go to dinner with you, on one condition."
"Yeah, what's that?"
"Get the heck out of my lab!"
"Whatever you say, Simms. Whatever you say."
He gave a mock bow, and left the DNA tech to her work, not able to smother the smile tugging at his lips.
He had a dinner date with Wendy Simms.
Things were finally looking up.
A/N: Look! A Wedges fic where they actually TALK to one another! Dies of shock. (This is new for me… usually I just do an insight fic with them…)
