It started as simple unrest. America had been menaced by threats of an attack for the longest time, but never imagined it would actually happen. Eventually, the terrorist threat had reached the point where conflict was unavoidable. Ultimately, attempted negotiations fell through, and what was once thought a mere nightmare, World War III, had begun. It soon reached the point that nuclear weapons were the only way the conflict would cease. Through them, conflict did cease, but at the cost of destruction worldwide. New York City, in particular, became, in essence, a crime capital. Law and order were stripped away, and replaced by a system in which ran on survival of the fittest, where the strong preyed on the weak with no remorse. It has been years since the war, and New York is slowly healing, albeit at a snail's pace.
Among the people still living in the city were a pair of brothers known as Billy and Jimmy Lee. The two had run a small dojo in the city's outskirts. It is there that they taught their students crucial skills and ways to survive in the hostile city. The style that the Lees taught was known as "Sou-Setsu-Ken", or "The Fist That Whirls". Among the students at the dojo was a woman named Marian Kelly, who was also part of the narcotics investigation unit of what was left of the New York Police Department.
The police had spend several months monitoring an organization known as the "Shadow Warriors", led by a man named Duke. The Shadow Warriors were the biggest crime group left standing, and rules over most of the city with an iron fist. One day, Marian was assigned to investigate a drug ring that the Shadow Warriors were believed to be part of. Several days have passed, and Marian has yet to return.
Approximately a week later, the Lee brothers recieved a letter from the Shadow Warriors themselves. The letter read, "If you want Marian back, you are required to turn your dojo over to our branch, the Duke dojo. You are also required to cooperate with us as subordinates". The Lees were not willing to simply hand their dojo over, instead vowing to take the fight to the Shadow Warriors. They hope to bring down the group, rescue Marian, and make the city safe again.
