Jiya opened her eyes and looked at the digital clock display. The glowing green numbers showed 4:18 AM.

She rolled over to check on Lucy and nearly jumped out of her skin. "Flynn!"

He turned his head towards her.

"How -" Jiya was half a second away from asking how he got in their room without her knowing when she noticed the expression on his face. Concern creased with exhaustion. She changed her inquiry mid sentence. "...is she?"

Flynn looked back at where Lucy lay on her cot. "She still has a fever."

Jiya sat up. "I should change her dressing."

"I already did." Flynn said, looking back at Lucy.

"How did it look?" Jiya asked.

"Better but still not good." He answered, rubbing a hand over his face.

"Flynn, how long have you been here?" Jiya asked.

He exhaled deeply before he spoke. "I'm the reason she's here."

"Yeah, you are." Jiya agreed almost instantly.

Flynn turned his head ever so slightly in her direction.

Jiya continued. "Here. As in alive. Rufus told me what happened. He told me you saved their lives. By the way, he's on board with you having a gun now. Flynn, it's not your fault she's hurt. But it is thanks to you that she's alive."

Jiya watched him for a moment. "Why don't you get some rest. I'll be here."

He turned his head towards her but his eyes never left Lucy. "It's 4:30 in the morning."

"It's OK, I have work to do." Jiya lied.

He nodded and Jiya pretended not to notice as he leaned forward, allowing his little finger to brush, ever so slightly, along Lucy's hand. He stood and left the room without a word.

Jiya looked from the door to Lucy shaking her head in mild wonder.
