He had this all planned out. He would walk up to her, he would say it, and she would say yes, falling into his arms with love.
Ok, so it was a little wishful with the whole "falling-into-arms" part, but hey, she was unpredictable, even to herself sometimes. Her best friend had told him that she wasn't looking for a boyfriend right now, but every single wanted a boyfriend to some extent. She just didn't know it yet. Even Lily. So he was going to tell her. He was going to tell her that he had had his eye on her for a while now. Since she had showed up at his school, Hogwarts, he had been nice to her, being the school's welcoming committee. She hadn't caught on to his plans yet, but he had a feeling soon. May as well tell her before she figured it out.
He came back to reality, where he was sitting on a bench below the big clock in the middle of the campus. He knew she would be coming with her friend Katie from the library after doing their Dark Arts homework, Katie had told him so. He hugged himself in cold and nervousness. He had on a sweater, a cloak, and a scarf, but was cold all the same. His hands were shaking in his black gloves, and he felt like his haphazard black hair was sticking straight up from the goose pimples.
There she was. She was bundled up, too, with her green sweater that accented her green eyes and her red hair. Her thick, black cloak was wrapped around her shoulders protectively, like a brother protecting her from a boy who likes his sister, a red and gold scarf clung to her neck as though it would never come loose, and her hood was pulled up over her flowing red hair.
Her eyes found him and she held out an arm to stop Katie from walking farther into the building, and she sauntered over to him, "Hey there, James. What's new in the magical world of you?"-- Her normal greeting. The courage that he had found this morning when he woke up disintegrated and he started to shake more, his heart pounding so loudly in his chest that he was sure that she could hear it. There she was, leaning towards him, so close that all he needed to do was to lean forward and place his lips on hers if he wanted to kiss her.
He took a deep breath. He leaned forward. She tilted her head in confusion, and he acted too quickly for her to react. His lips touched hers lightly and her eyes closed, as Katie snuck off, giving them a few minutes of privacy, for her to either kiss him back or to pull back and slap him. For a moment, James' heart stopped, and he didn't breathe. He was waiting for her reaction. Time stopped, and then it happened.
Her lips opened a little bit. She was accepting him. James could barely keep it in. He saw the fireworks that all books talked about, right behind his eyelids, although the logical part of his brain told him that they weren't real. He felt like it was the Fourth of July in America, watching the fireworks in every city. The kiss ended and he looked into her eyes. Her face was positively glowing. She was flushed, but it looked amazing with her crystal clear green eyes and light red hair. She smiled shyly at him and blinked a few times, as though trying to clear her head. He smiled back.
"Lily Evans, will you go out with me?"
