Prologue

Erestor watched the sky turn red. The sun had set just a few moments ago and with it went the only life he had known. His parents had died protecting him and all the other elves of Gondolin. He was alone in a world full or torment and pain.

He turned his attention to the little group that were settling down close to the campfire. Little Earendil was rolling around on his bedroll being watched carefully by his naneth.

"Erestor, you must rest. We need to be awake early if we are to stay ahead of them." A gentle squeeze from Tuor had him walking stiffly to his own bedroll.

"Where will we go now?" Erestor looked to his now guardian, Tuor.

"I do not know Erestor. But where ever we go, we will be together – I will not leave you."

Tuor placed a hand on Erestor's head and ruffled his hair.

"You will be with us also. It seems Earendil has taken a liking to you and won't settle if you are not close." Tuor winked and earned a chuckle from Erestor.

The days drifted into weeks and the weeks to months. The band of elves continued to trudge through wilderness and desolation in hopes of finding a new home. Gondolin had been a hidden city and few inhabitants knew of other settlements.

The sudden sound of shouts and cries followed by horses' hooves sent the weary travellers to the roadside bushes. Earendil clung to Erestor like he had been taught to do if his nana and ada were not around. Erestor's heart was beating wildly in his chest.

A strange sight came into view. An elf on horseback! It had been so long since any elf had seen such a sight. The rider was one of the scouts sent on ahead.

"We ran into a party of elves up ahead. They hail from a place called Lindon!"

Tuor raised his mighty frame and raised his voice, loud and clear.

"We will go there, where it is safe. We will go to Lindon."
