Title: Running from Silence

Disclaimer: Don't own it, never will :(

A/N: Haven't written anything in a while so I decided to do another Doctor Who one-shot. Takes place just after "The God Complex".

Silence.

In the end it was always him and the silence. After they left and their adventures were over, after he waved them off or mourned their sudden loss, it was always there waiting for him. Consuming both his hearts and soul.

The Doctor sat in the now quiet counsel room with noting but the gentle hum of the TARDIS to keep him company. He hated the quiet, it allowed him too much time to think and reflect. Think back to each of the times he traveled with his friends, every laugh, every monster, every world they saved. Also, the look on each of their faces the moment he let them down.

It tore him up to shatter little Amelia's faith in him, as much as it did with Ace. But it needed to be done and it was better to do it now rather then when it was too late to save her.

Save her, save them.

That's what he told himself as he waved goodbye. It was better this way, better to leave them behind than risk their lives because an selfish old man didn't want to be alone. Alone with himself, with his thoughts and with nothing but silence.

It was always the same. When it got to be too much, when he couldn't stand the silence any longer he'd find someone new to travel with. Someone to talk to, to impress and to run with and never look back. Someone who's life would be in constant mortal danger because he can't stand to be alone with his own memories.

And what really frightened and sickened him the most was that he'd do it again. He'll come across someone when he's had enough of the silence and take them away from their friends and family. And he won't feel the slightest bit sorry until it's too late.

The Ponds were lucky, with them he came to his senses before they were killed... Well, at least Amy. The Doctor had become convinced that the universe had it out for Rory with the number of times he had died.

With a slight chuckle at that last though he got up and faced the counsel. He would miss his friends but this was for the best. He typed in some new co-ordinates and set his sexy ship spinning into the vortex. He needed to get moving, on to a new adventure to occupy his mind.

He needed to run from the past, from his loneliness and more importantly from the silence.
