"Truth or dare, Mr. Todd?" said Nellie, sitting down across from her partner in crime, a bottle of gin in one hand and two glasses in the other.
"What?" he grunted, taking a glass and pouring himself some of the clear liquid.
"Truth or dare?" she asked again.
"What is that?" he said after taking a large swig from the glass.
"It's a game. It's fun! C'mon, play with me." she said, a smile playing on her lips.
After a moment's contemplation, Sweeney sighed and said, "Fine. How do you play?"
Nellie grinned and started explaining. "Okay. So the first player asks the second player whether they want truth, or dare. If they choose truth, the first player gets to ask them anything, anything at all, and they have to answer. Truthfully. But, if they don't like the question, they can switch to dare. If they choose dare, the first player gets to dare the second player to do anything. The second player has to do it, or else risk being called a chicken. Get it?"
"Sounds stupid." Sweeney responded, refilling his glass.
"It's fun! Now, truth or dare?" she asked, grinning mischievously.
"…Truth, I suppose." he finally answered.
After thinking for a few minutes, she asked, "Was Lucy your first?"
Sweeney almost spit out the gin he was drinking. "Excuse me?" he managed, coughing loudly.
"Was Lucy your-" she started again, but Sweeney quickly interrupted her.
"I know what you meant!"
Nellie giggled at his reaction. "Then answer!"
"No! I'm switching to dare!" he exclaimed.
Nellie struggled to hold back her grin as she said, "Okay…I dare you to…" she trailed off as if she were in deep thought.
"Kiss me." she finally finished.
Sweeney's eyes widened and he opened his mouth, as if he was trying to say something. But nothing came out. Nellie smirked and scooted closer to him. Sweeney immediately slid farther from her.
"Now, Mr. T, I dared you. You have to do it." she said, smiling darkly.
"N-No! No, I'm not going to kiss you!" he said as he stood up, scampering to the other side of the room. Nellie got up as well and followed him.
She giggled and said, "Chicken."
Sweeney growled and walked away from her, toward the door and the safety of his barber shop.
She followed him, singing, "Chicken, chicken, chicken, chicken, chicken!"
He threw open the door and started up the stairs. Still, she trailed behind him.
"Chicken! Chicken! Bawk, bawk, bawk! Chicken!"
Finally, he turned on her. "SWEENEY TODD IS NOT A CHICKEN!" he roared.
Nellie wasn't the least bit frightened. "Then prove it." she whispered, smirking and narrowing her eyes.
Without another word, he grabbed her small hand in his and led her back down to the pie shop. As soon as the door closed behind them, he pulled her to him and dipped her, holding her up with his arm. He looked into her surprised eyes for a moment before his lips crashed furiously onto hers.
Nellie sighed and relaxed, sinking into his arm. His tongue ran over her lower lip, begging for entrance. She obliged, opening her mouth and deepening the kiss.
When they finally had to break apart for air, he smirked devilishly and tucked a strand of red hair behind her ear. He pulled her back to a standing position and started back out the door.
"Sweeney Todd is not a chicken." he said, before smirking again and leaving, back up to his sanctuary of a work place.
Nellie was still stunned by what had happened. A grin grew on her face and she had to lean against the counter for support. She giggled softly and skipped to her bedroom for the night.
