The branches of the slender, knotted trees bit into the girl's arms. Blinded by the night and tears, she ran until her legs ached to be put to rest. She sobbed as she fell to her knees, collapsing upon the rough ground. A cold wind whispered past the girl's russet hair as it swirled about her. The girl sobbed into the black air and watched as her breath lingered out of her beautiful lips and slowly disappeared leaving no trace of it ever being there before. Her crystal tears slid down her cheek and landed upon her open hands.

It drifted, ever so slowly, in a downward spiral towards the cold ground. Shifting and turning, gliding across the night air. And then, it landed.

The girl opened her eyes as she felt something cold touch her trembling hands. A single snowflake laid there, on her palm. She looked up into the night sky and watched as many other flakes of white drifted across the contrasting sky. The girl watched with blood red eyes as the snow landed upon her white face. The little flakes turned to droplets of water as they mixed with the salty tears.

"Please…" whimpered the girl. She covered her face with her hands. Her hot face warmed her hands as she sobbed anew. "Not yet…not yet…" Her breath hitched in her chest as she remembered the white coats, the look on their faces. "Please…no…it's not true. It's not true!" She yelled into her hands as she let more and more tears fall down her face.

The snow danced in the night air.
