Chiho was frustrated. It seemed like the whole world was turning against her. She was having an awful day.

Her day started off with her waking up later than usual and so she was late to school. Moreover, it seemed that her hair had decided become wild all of a sudden and she had no time to tame it. After school, she messed up her orders at work and got a warning from Ms. Kisaki.

It was an awful day.

But then she decided that she might hang out with Maou for the evening to lighten up her mood, but it seemed he had other plans.

Chiho and Maou had a break. Their shift had just finished and they were sitting in the staff room. That's when she decided to ask him.

"Maou-san, w-would you like to… hang out today in the evening?" she asked nervously.

"Oh, sorry Chiho, I have plans for today evening." Maou said looking up, seeming in deep thought.

"Plans?!" she asked as her inner-jealous self took over.

Maou held up his hands defensively, "Yeah plans. Emi said she had some important work for me to do. Come to think of it, Ashiya has plans too, with some Emi's friend. Urushihara is going to be home if you have some work with him-"

"No, I'm good." Chiho cut him off mid-sentence and sighed as she dropped her head into her folded hands on the desk.

"Bad day?" Maou asked.

"Yes…" she said as she snuggled in her arms sulking (with a -3- face).

"Aw Chi, don't worry it'll get better soon. Cheer up." Maou gave a reassuring smile.

And that was that. After that she went home and was so bored that she felt her body and mind were literally rotting. So she chose her last resort. Grabbing her mobile, she quickly called up one of her recent contacts.

"Hello?" came the voice from her phone.

"Hi Suzuno," Chiho said cheerfully.

"Oh, good afternoon Chiho. How are you doing?" Suzuno asked.

"I'm great, thanks for asking! Actually I was wondering if you're free for the evening… I thought that maybe we could hang out." Chiho asked nervously.

Chiho could hear whining voices from the other side of the phone. Soon enough Suzuno started talking, "Sorry, that was Urushihara being stubborn. About going out… I am extremely sorry but I'll have to turn down the offer. I am supposed to be teaching Urushihara house work and chores. Maybe we could go out another time."

"It's alright," Chiho sighed. "Bye."

"Goodbye." Suzuno said as she kept the phone.

Chiho rolled in her bed. She thought of something to do. She finally decided upon taking a stroll in the park. She brushed her hair and wore the green outfit which she wore when she first went out with Maou.

'Probably getting ready and looking good might make my day better.' she thought as she started fixing her hair.

"Mom I'm going out!" she yelled as she walked out and headed toward the park.

Someone asked me if there was a chance for a sequel to Defect. Unfortunately, I have no such plans as of now, but if I come up with a good storyline to continue it then you'd be the first one to know. :)

About this story, this fic is going to have all the pairings as mentioned in the summary; one chapter for each pair- AshiyaXRika, MaouXEmi, and UrushiharaXSuzuno. I feel bad to leave Chiho alone so I might add a bonus chapter which will have ChihoXOC.
