The two moons rose and took their places high in the night sky, as the stars danced across the dark void of our universe, shining down upon the barren land and lighting it ever so slightly. The calm breeze gently sliced through the cool night air, caressing the land and the few lone people who walked it. It slowly drifted, mimicking the movements of a small wave and disturbing a few grains of sand that sat on the ground. It made its way towards a small tent and pushed the flaps open, bearing the inside to the world for a brief second, then returning it back to isolation just as quickly.

Inside two people lay in complete silence, not needing to speak or say what they were thinking. Their thoughts were expressed by the way they held each other and by their silence. Thoughts of pure happiness and contentment. Feelings that they never thought possible. Feelings that had the power to make them cry, then in a brief second make them smile and laugh again. Feelings that made them rise early in the morning and never want to go to sleep at night. Feelings that made every day a new adventure. And feelings that made life worth living. This was all they needed; each other forever.

Without a care in the world they lay in each other's arms, intertwined body and soul. Breathing deep and slow as sleep began to set in, their eyes became heavy, struggling to stay open. She rested her head lightly on his torso, letting the sound of his heartbeat and the rise and fall of his chest slowly transport her into a calm slumber. Subconsciously and possessively, she draped her arm across him as he held her hand tightly to his chest. Wrapping his arm around her back he rested it on her shoulder and softly traced invisible patterns across her smooth skin. He inhaled deeply, taking in the sweet smell of her hair, then kissed her forehead tenderly.

Looking up at him she smiled lovingly. He stared back into her eyes completely mesmerised. Her eyes, which showed pure innocence and trust, the window to her soul. He smiled back at her and softly brushed a strand of her hair off her face then placed it back behind her ear. She then turned her head and rested back on his chest. Holding her tightly once again he let out a deep sigh. A sigh of contentment for he was happy to be holding the woman he loved forever in a day. They both drifted of to sleep their need to be held, suppressed.

Daniel Jackson jerked upright, awoken to the chaos that is Earth. Stars replaced by streetlights, cool night air replaced by fog and pollution, and happiness replaced by an intense feeling of remorse. A feeling that had the power to make him cry, but never smile. A feeling that kept haunting him, no matter how hard he tried to conquer it. Sitting on the side of his bed he wiped away the beads of sweat that trickled down his face. Letting out a deep sigh he tried to get rid of the lingering image that raced around in his mind. The image of his lost love Shau're. He sat there staring out the window of his blackened apartment asking himself the same question that had been taunting his mind for the past six months. "Why?"
