Prologue The Challenge

I am not in any way JK nor do I plan to ever be her.

Please do not read if you have not read the books!

"I hate you!" James screamed across the almost empty room.
"I hate you more!" Snape screamed back.
"I'm glad that we've learned to develop such meaningful comebacks in all the years that I've had to listen to both of you fight," Lupin said as he raised his head up from his book. They were in the great hall but most people had left for bed long ago.
"I kind of like the fighting," Sirius smiled as he threw Lupin's book across the room. "What else could they do anyway?"
"They need to have a test of wits," Lupin replied. "Something that will actually stop the fighting."
"Nothing will stop the fighting," Sirius grinned.
"Anything's worth a shot," Lupin said as he stood up.
"I hate you more than I hate the piece of toast that falls on the floor and gets trampled on!" James yelled.
"You would still eat the piece of toast that fell on the floor and got trampled on," Snape spat.
"So," James replied. "I don't want good food to go to waste."
"Both of you shut up," Lupin screamed over their voices. "If you two want to finally find out who the better person is, then I have an idea." He paused and smiled. "A treasure hunt and not just any treasure hunt. You'll wake up tomorrow and go to the great hall. That's where you will both get your clues. The search will test your skills in almost every area of magic that we are taught."
"And how do I know that I'll get a fair fight?" Snape questioned.
"Send three people to the great hall in an hour. They'll help Sirius, Peter, and I plan the hunt."
"Fair enough" Snape said as he turned and left.
"What in the world inspired you to do this?" James asked.
"You'll win and it'll stop my headache," Lupin replied. "Just please do it. If you don't do it now he will have reason to mock you for the rest of your life."
"Fine," James sighed. "I'm going to bed. Just make sure that I'll win."
"Oh we will," Lupin replied. "Don't worry." He watched and waited as James stalked out of the great hall.
"We are going to make it to where he wins, right?" Sirius questioned.
"Of course," Lupin smiled. "Let's go find Peter."
