Break Away

Okay. So, this story came to mind a LONG time ago. I don't own PJO. If I did, I would be married to Connor. ;D. ENJOY!

Third Person POV

Her shadow danced along the alley wall. Her steps were quick, small but silent. She stumbled, and threw a anxious glance over her shoulder.

Keep going, girl! You can do this. She told herself silently. Finally, exhaustion came over her and she stood, slumped against a wall with her hands on her knees. Panting, she looked around.

"You lost, sweetheart?" The unexpected voice made her jump and violently throw a blind punch.

"Whoa!" He said, throwing his hands up, taking a step back. Panicking, she threw another punch. This time, he caught her wrist, frantically she began kicking and fighting.

"Let go! Let go! No, no, no! LET ME GO! LET-" She shouted. He cut her off by slamming a hand over her mouth.

"Shh!" He hissed, "Do you wanna die?" Her eyes widened, thinking he would kill her.

"No! I'm not-! Oh, gods, why couldn't this have been simpler?" He groaned. She struggled, so close from escaping... One final jerk and she was free. Running, her feet taking larger but still silent steps.

Finally, he caught up to her and pinned her against the wall, "Listen. I'm just trying to help. If you would just-"

"Go away! Just leave me alone!" She cried, ripping free and curling into a ball. It took a moment for him to decipher she was crying.

"Hey, I'm sorry. What's your name? I'm Connor." She sniffled, then looked up. Wiping her nose on her sleeve, she stared at him for a moment, analyzing him.

Then, speaking timidly and very quietly, she said, barely above a whisper, but harsh and defiant, "Why should I tell you, Connor?"

Connor groaned, glaring at her, and she cringed.

"I'm sorry," she whispered eyes wide, as if she thought he would hurt her.

"It's fine." Connor said, rather confused.

"Monique," she whispered.

"Unique?"

She shook her head. "No. Monique."

"Monique? What's your last name?"

"What's it matter to you?" She whisper-snapped. Connor raised an eyebrow.

"Williams." She said quickly.

"Connor Stoll."

"Stoll...?" She questioned.

"Yes."

She frowned.

"I think..." She struggled to remember where she saw him, "I think I know you."

"Hmmm... Maybe-" Connor started, but was effectively cut off by a roar down the alley. Stumbling to her feet, Monique started running. Connor just laughed and grabbed her elbow.

"Relax, it's just Travis." He chuckled. She looked confused when Travis appeared.

"Twins." She mumbled, still surprised.

"Ex," Connor started.

"act," Travis said,

"ly!" They finished together.

"Do you always do that?" She asked quietly.

"Not really," Connor answered.

"We should get going." Travis said, "Or else Katie's gonna kill me."

"Wait!" She said, "Where are you going?"

"Don't you mean where are we going? You, Monique, are coming with us." Connor said. Monique's once colorless face now flushed pink.

"You actually... like me?" She stuttered out.

"Well, why not, Miss..." Travis trailed off. "Williams." Connor whispered to his twin.

"...Miss Williams?" Travis finshed. Trying to cover it up, she shrugged.

"I probably look like a mess," Monique said, giving them a grin that didn't quite reach her eyes.

"Well, we can't stay here all day!" Connor exclaimed, grabbing Monique by her wrist.

"Wait! Where are we going?" She asked, allowing the twins to drag her along.

"To Camp Half-Blood!" They exclaimed, running, dragging her along causing her to burst into real giggles.
