Gatsby had just finished sending out the final invitations to his surprise birthday party for his dear friend, Nick Carraway. He had spent months and months planning this grand event and wanted everything to be perfectly planned for the splendid night. Just as he was about to reside in his bedroom for the night, Gatsby heard a knock at his door and inquisitively went to the front of his manor to see who it could be. As he opened his door, he focused his attention on an older woman, around the age of sixty, standing in a lovely red dress with a delicate lace trim collar resting on her neck.
"Yes?" he asked her in a quiet, curious tone. "Hello, lad. My name is Mrs. Dalloway and I have come to invite you to my party. I am new to the city and thought there'd be no better way to introduce myself than to plan an extravagant event for all of my neighbors". Taken back Gatsby asked, "A party, you say? When will this party take place?" "October the 26th", she answered. "This handsome young man, Nick Carraway is helping me plan the festivities. Such a sweet lad."
Without a moment's notice, Gatsby roared and slammed the door in Mrs. Dalloway's face. "How could this be happening," he thought to himself. How would he ever be able to surprise Nick with a party if he was planning on helping their new neighbor with one the same day? Gatsby was overwhelmed with his new dilemma and decided it would be much better if he explained his predicament to his new neighbor.
"I bed your pardon, Sir," Mrs. Dalloway bluntly stated as Gatsby reopened his door. "I never…" "My apologizes," Gatsby interrupted. "Mrs. Dalloway, I was ever so rude but I must tell you I am facing a bit of a dilemma. You see, that young handsome lad that has agreed to help you with your party is actually having a party of his own that day." "Oh," she whispered. "Well why did he not just say such a thing?" "It's a surprise party, Miss. He doesn't know it, but I've been planning it for months now and I don't know what I will do if it is ruined!" Gatsby, now faint with the thought of his plans being destroyed, lowers himself on to his front step where the older woman follows. "Do not stress, my dear," calmly spoke Mrs. Dalloway. "I think the two of us will be able to figure something quite nice out."
