The night she returns to Mewni, she can't sleep.
Star's mind is racing with thoughts and somehow she almost wishes that she was as naive as people believe her to be. With a broken wand and a lost friend, guilt is heavy on the young princess's shoulders and she's left with only that to ponder.
She's sitting up with her journal in her old bed, reading over it. The things she wrote about Ludo almost make her giggle now if she wasn't so close to tears, how she wrote such silly and unsuspecting things. How she never imagined that something he did could rip away nearly everything from her. Guilt fills up her stomach as she realizes she should have been more careful, how her family's wand may never be fixed, how Toffee could easily take her family down without a need for magic and it would be her fault for not keeping a better eye on both her best friend and the wand.
It's when she gets to the section about Marco that she feels the knot in her throat and her eyes feel heavy. Everything feels heavy, she thinks and she can't help but wonder if Marco feels the same way. She should know, their souls are bonded but something feels so off about it that she can't even begin to imagine how he's dealing with everything. Guilt eats away at her chest as she lists off everything that he could be feeling; Hurt, betrayal, abandonment, maybe even guilt for not feeling the same way about her.
Though when she passes a small paragraph describing Glossaryck's pudding obsession, Star lets out an ugly sob that wracks her body. Her fingers ache when she continues to turn the pages, hoping that maybe something good will come.
