Phantom Pain
The pain chews at his wound.
Aching. Raw. The pain of a missing member.
He can see the emptiness where it should be,
Knows without a doubt it can't be gone.
But the pain tells him otherwise. He shouldn't feel pain.
But the pain is still there.
The pain is real
A missing friend.
Rodney McKay is no stranger to pain.
He has known the pain of unseen abuse, courtesy of his father,
Has known the pain of being abandoned by his mother.
Knows the pain of holding his sister distant,
And knows what it is to wake in a cell after trade negotiations have gone bad…
But an empty coffeepot just somehow, brings it all home to him.
Brings out the phantom pain.
"Can noone remember to reorder coffee?" He whines to no one in general.
