I never thought I'd get you back but I never stopped believing I would.
Dean whispers to Sam when he thinks Sam is sleeping, but Sam's had an Archangel inside/outside/beside him for two hundred years and Sam hears his brother even when Dean thinks he's being quieter than a zephyr, just a tiny puff of air, barely enough to float a dandelion seed.
Dean is contrary. Full of hope but overtopped with despair. Sam takes comfort from this. He might be burnt out and more than half crazy but Dean is the same as he ever was.
