A/N: I thought of this a while back, and when I saw the day of black sun, I knew it would be perfect.
Zuko knew he had made the right decision when he had decided to join the avatar. For the first time in a long time, he actually felt… happy. It was strange. After so long trying to capture the avatar to restore his honor, to be happy, what had worked was for him to join the avatar.
By the time the avatar began to land, it was nearly dark, and Zuko decided to join them in the morning. He landed his balloon and gathered firewood. He took the food he had brought, and had an unsatisfying dinner. Then he tried to sleep. His restless dreams where full of a happy time in his childhood, a time when he was young, and his cousin Lu Ten would always be showing Zuko amazing firebending moves. One day, Lu Ten said he would show Zuko how to use the dual broadswords. He gave them to Zuko and asked him to try to use them. Zuko obliged. Lu Ten told him to stop, and took the broadswords himself.
"Remember, these are dual blades part of the same whole, not two separate swords, so don't treat them like that. To work, you have to think of them as one sword, as one blade." He said. He gave them back to Zuko, and he tried again. This time, he tried to think of them as one blade. It needed work, but now he got it. He kept trying.
This continued for years, Zuko learning, and Lu Ten teaching. Eventually, Zuko was almost as good as Lu ten. Then his father, Iroh, as sent of to try to invade the great city of Ba Sing Se. Lu Ten was to go with them. Before they left, Lu Ten approached Zuko with his swords.
"Zuko, I want you to have them," he said, and gave them to Zuko. "I don't need them, and you deserve them. Treat them well, and they will treat you in kind."
Then he said goodbye, and went aboard the ship that would take them to the earth kingdom capital. That was the last time Zuko saw Lu Ten.
The next morning, as he sat eating his breakfast, He thought about all this. He had realized that Iroh was more of a father to him than Ozai, and that in turn, Lu Ten was more of a sibling than Azula.
He gathered all his stuff together, and set of on foot. He knew who he was. And he was ready to face his destiny.
A/N: I don't know weather or not to write more chapters, or make this a one shot, so please review and tell me your opinions.
