Battling God and Winning

Ari stood silent, exhausted as always after a tough battle, as Beiloune spouted the last of the poison left in his twisted being, calling for his lost child. Unable even at the very end to let go of his obsession, he screamed Marlene's name. His voice, the red- head noted dully was despairing and rang hollowly, which really was the best description of the man, despairing and hollow. He joined in his usual reserved way the victory celebrations of his friends, operating more through habit than any actual thought, as he firmly separated Rosalyn and Stan as they and the rest of their friends began to disperse, each to their own destinations and on their own travels. Stan streaked off, an inky shadow racing across the land, Rosalyn hot on his tail, with her parasol occasionally bouncing up and over to allow unfiltered light to hit her, revealing her fluorescent pink shadow.

In front of his house, he took Marlene's hand with a vague sense of relief and as they continued up the stairs to his home, both lost in their individual thoughts, silent.

It wasn't until he crossed the doorstep, ready to begin a life that was no longer scripted, where he could be who he wanted to be, that the fragment of thought that had been hovering in his mind since Beiloune's defeat became solid with a burst of euphoria.

He had gone head to head with God on the subject of destiny and God had fallen.

A review would be appreciated, I'm sure you could spare the time. Please OO.
