All was quiet in the Seireitei. The sun was rising, chasing the darkness of the night away with its brilliant light. Most of the Shinigami were still sleeping, enjoying their peace until the chaos of the average work day began. However, some were awake and getting a jump start on the heavy workload the new day would bring. A certain raven haired lieutenant had been working at her desk since four in the morning, hoping to get the paperwork out of the way before assuming her other duties for the day. She was also hoping that she could get the paperwork done before a pink robed individual waltzed into her office to try and flirt with her. Yes, that was one of the few things that annoyed Nanao Ise to no end. Flirting, it distracted so many Shinigami from doing a good, solid job and made things that much harder for others, lieutenants and captains in particular. There was plenty of time to flirt and do recreational activities after the work day, and there was no exception for doing it anytime during a work period.

As the sun rose, the peacefulness and quiet of the Seireitei slowly faded into the hustle and bustle of thousands of Shinigami going to work. Nanao sighed, finishing off the paperwork and stacking it in a neat little pile. Then she took a scrap piece of paper, and neatly, she wrote, 'Completed' before proceeding to place the note on the stack of papers. She looked to the sky, which a flawless light blue, with little white wisps of cloud dotting the otherwise perfect sky. The sun wasn't at its highest yet, and Nanao figured that she had enough time to go and collect tomorrow's paperwork before her frivolous and lazy captain stumbled in the door. Then she glanced at today's paperwork, stacked so neatly atop her spotless desk.

"Nanao-chan!" The familiar pet name used so often by her Captain drifted through her semi opened door. Soon, Shunsui Kyoraku was in her office, sitting down in a chair on the other side of her desk. "G'morning, Nanao-chan." He said affectionately.

"Good morning, Captain." Nanao said stiffly. "You're early this morning."

"I thought I might come and help out with the paperwork." Shunsui said, and gave her a lopsided smile while tipping his hat back.

"I already finished the paperwork." Nanao replied, sighing inwardly. She had been hoping to have a little more piece and quiet, but it looked like that wish was not going to be granted.

"You really should loosen up a little, Nanao-chan...Life ain't any fun when you spend your time waking up early and doing paperwork."

"There is plenty of time to relax and have fun after the workday." Nanao retorted, and then whacked her captain's feet as they appeared on her tidy and clean desk. Shunsui hastily put his feet back on the floor. Nanao sighed, and turned to face the window. Shunsui, thinking that Nanao couldn't see him, set his feet back on her desk; however, Nanao could see his reflection quite clearly in the clean window. She couldn't help but smile. And so the day starts off. Just like normal. With that, she proceeded to scold Shunsui again, unaware of the imminent danger lurking just out of sight. Nanao, like everyone else, was oblivious to the hell that was going to break loose.

Author's Note

Sorry it's so short, but I felt like this was a good place to end it, and I really just needed to get the story started before anything exciting could happen. This is my first story, so I would really appreciate it if you could review it and tell me what I need to improve on. Thanks!

Edit: Thanks to princess-kally for pointing out a few mistakes I made…I edited the chapter a bit, so hopefully it's a little better now.
