Amelia was in the kitchen preparing an after school snack for her twelve year old daughter Kat. She heard the door slam and kat walked in she looked like she had been crying. Amelia walked over and pulled her into a hug "Sweetheart whats wrong?". Kat sniffled then said "I have no friends all the kids are mean to me and a bunch of girls called me a freak".

Amelia frowned it was a mystery to her how children could be mean enough to make fun of her sweet daughter that was nice to everyone. Amelia pushed back her irritation and smiled comfortingly "oh honey it sounds like you had a bad day". Kat nodded looking sad "yeah I just wish I knew why they don't like me what am I doing wrong?. Amelia looked at her lovingly and said "Your not doing anything wrong you are the kindest kid I know".

Kat rolled her eyes but she now had a small smile on her face "Yeah right you have to say that I'm your daughter". Amelia said gently" its the truth I have never seen a child that is sweeter or kinder than you". Feeling a little better Kat hugged her back "thanks you are the best mom ever". Amelia grinned and then James walked in smiling and handed Kat and Amelia a cup of hot chocolate.

James looked at his daughter and said "your mothers right Kat just ignore those mean girls". Amelia looked at her husband and asked teasingly "eavesdropping James? that isn't setting a very good example daughter" Kat snickered "yeah dad". James laughed and said "OK OK I smelled the cookies you were baking and I thought I should bring you both some hot chocolate when I heard you talking".

The next morning Kat was getting ready for school. Amelia handed Kat her lunch and said " have a good day sweetie just ignore those girls like your father told you to". Kat didn't think that would work but she hugged Amelia and said "I will mom". When Kat got to school she saw the same group of girls that called her a freak walking up to her they had adults with them that seemed to be their mothers.

One of the mothers said to Kat "Amelia called us and said that our daughters have been picking on you they are all grounded and they are going to apologize for being so mean". The girls mumbled "we are sorry that we called you a freak Kat". Kat smiled at them and said "its OK I'm not mad". The girls looked surprised but grateful that she had forgiven them".

After that day the girls stopped being mean to Kat and Kat had no more bad days. James looked at Amelia with amusement "I cant believe you called all of their moms" Amelia grinned" nobody messes with our daughter". James laughed and said "Kat is lucky to have such a good mom". Amelia squeezed his hand affectionately "and a good father". James felt doubtful but smiled at her gratefully he was glad that Kat had Amelia who had always been better at comforting Kat.
