How To Save A Life

CHAPTER 1
Things are never the way they seem to be. Things never go the way as planned. Maybe everything is a mistake. Or maybe this is all destiny……
It was dark, so dark. Ryou could hardly see a thing as he ran down the street. Rain dizzled down his neck mixing with his sweat, and he wiped his tear filled eyes. With no intuition of where he was heading, he ran blindly on.
Finally, his rain soaked sweatshirt weighing him down, Ryou stopped in an alley and sat with his back against a garage. One single streetlight shown down on him. He hugged his knees and buried his face against them.
"Why?", Ryou screamed suddenly into the heavens. He turned and punched the door in anger. That was the one question Ryou could never figure out. Why. Why did his father, who never accepted him, beat him every night? Why couldn't he love him for who he is? Why did his mother, who used to always tell him she loved him, who always hugged and protect him, who always defended him, never come out to see him anymore? Why did she hide away in her room and let these things happen to Ryou?
These things he could never figure out. In all his 16 years, things have never crashed down this far. His home life gradually got worse. Cuts and bruises increased. His mothers presence decreased. The shouting never ended. Nor did the tears. The crying only angered his father more, so Ryou learned to hold them in, to be strong, until he got away.
Tonight was no different. The only difference was that this time, Ryou had had enough. He pulled the gun from his pocket and fingered the smooth metal trigger. With a mumbled, "Fuck life", he aimed at his head and closed his eyes. As he pulled the trigger, at that exact millisecond, a body crashed into him, knocking the gun from Ryou's hand and causing the bullet to fly skyward. Ryou lay on his back, the other person pinning him.
"Don't…do it…..", panted a breathless male with silver hair.
