threads and fake smiles
author's note: I don't know what brought this on. Seriously.
disclaimer: I don't own Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy. However, I do own a bunch of string.
warnings: faint KairiYuffie but it can bee seen as friendship; mentions of SoRiku
You always try to make things, but they never work out right.
Your fingers are clumsy and worn, fumbling with the thin, delicate strands; your eyes are welling up with tears as another knot is unintentionally tied into the string. When you attempt at getting the twists and tangles out of the threads, it just gets worse.
The liquid that has been swimming in your eyes spills over as you realize that only the blue and green threads are intertwining, impossible to pull apart. The third string, colored soft red, is set apart and twisted in upon itself. It's just another testament to how your best friends are slipping away from you, leaving you in the dust.
Tears drip onto the pieces of thread, staining the light colors darker as you hunch over them, desperately trying to get everything to work, to tie together again. But no, the frayed ends refuse to slick together and the tightly knotted strings won't pull apart.
Then her slender hands are reaching over your shoulders, and you look up in surprise. She just gives you a gentle smile and then her deft, slim fingers are gently working the tangled, snarled strands apart again.
A tiny smile ghosts across your face as you watch her make everything right again, her eyes bright and her touch kind as she heals the deep wounds on your heart in an instant, simply by pulling the knots out and weaving everything together the way it should be.
Thoughts of being the useless one, the third wheel are forgotten as she picks a new strand from your clear plastic box, a yellow one, and ties it in with the rest. Somehow, this means so much to you that the tears that are falling are shifting to happy ones, and a choked sob escapes you as you hold your arms up to her. Without a word, she draws you into a hug, and she knows that this is about so much more than just the silly little bracelet weaving.
She knows that you don't want to be left behind. She knows that you want to feel loved, cherished. She knows that you want to be wanted, and with a single touch and a shared moment, you feel at peace for the first time since Sora and Riku told you they were in love and you tried to smile for them (but it had been fake, it was all fake)
This time, the smile is real as you whisper "Thank you, Yuffie."
...more than a bit pointless. Review if you feel like it.
