Chapter 1: The Memory
Inside a cave at Jasper Park, Eve and Lilly are sounding asleep.
Winston on the other hand was awake and is outside the cave, looking at the moon.
Winston has been having trouble sleeping a bit lately because a memory in him haunts him.
"That memory...Every time I see Lilly, It brings me back that terrible moment" Winston thought to himself.
The memory he remembers took place years ago when Winston was young and he was wandering through the woods by himself when he heard two gunshots from a distance.
He rushes to the noise and notices a snow coloured female wolf lying on the ground.
Winston rushes to the wolf and realise that it was his friend, Melody and then he said "Melody! Are you alright?"
The female wolf just sobbed and whispered "He's gone Winston...He's gone"
"Who's gone?" Winston asked.
"M-My husband... Fredrick...The hunters...They took him" Melody sobbed.
"I'm so sorry Melody" Winston sadly apologised then gasps to see that there was blood pouring out of her.
The female wolf was shot and is dying.
"Hang on Melody! I'm gonna get you somewhere safe" said Winston as he tries to help his friend.
She pushes Winston out of the way and tries to run but she wobbles and collapse to the ground,
"I must get to her...I must get back to my daughter" Melody weakly sobbed.
"Your daughter?" Winston asked.
"Y-yes...She's all alone in that cave" Melody looks at the cave that was nearby them.
"I need to get to her Winston" said Melody who tries to get back up but collapse back down.
"Melody! Hang in there! I'm gonna get you and your daughter out of here" said Winston and he helps Melody back up and takes her to the cave.
Once inside the cave, Winston saw a small white furred pup that was curled up like a ball and soundly asleep.
"Your daughter is safe" said Winston but notices that Melody was not responding and she felt really cold.
"Melody? Melody? Oh no! Hang in there! Just hang on!" exclaimed Winston.
"Winston...You are my best friend...Please...I need you to do something for me" Melody weakly said.
"Anything Melody" said Winston as he grows concerned for his friend.
"Please...look after my daughter...Keep her safe...Protect her...Please..." Melody sobbed.
Winston looks at her then to her daughter and finally he replied "I promise"
"Thank you Winston...Thank you so much" Melody happily sobbed as she coughs violently.
"What's your daughter's name?" Winston asked.
"Her name is...Lilly" Melody gasped then she coughs more and then with her final gasp, she dies.
Winston sobs at the loss of his deceased friend then he walks up to Lilly and said
"Lilly, I promise I will protect you, I will look after you and I will keep you safe...I promise Lilly...I promise"
"Daddy?"
Suddenly Winston opened his eyes and finds himself back to the present and turns around to see Lilly looking at him.
"Lilly! Hey sweetheart! What are you doing out here? It's really late" said Winston as he smiles at her.
"Nothing. it's just that I woke up to find you that you were out here. I was a little worried, Are you OK dad?" Lilly asked.
"Yes Lilly. I'm fine. I'm sorry that I made you worried but I'm OK. Go back to sleep Lilly. I'll be back inside soon" said Winston.
"Ok then. Goodnight dad" said Lilly and she walks back inside the cave.
"Good night Lilly" said Winston who watches her walking back into the cave then thought to himself.
"How can I tell Lilly the truth? What if she hates me if I tell her?"
Winston then looks back at the moon one more time and then heads back inside the cave and decided to get some sleep.
Inside the cave, Winston passes by Lilly and smiles at her as she was sounding asleep.
"I promised I kept her safe and protected her and I have" Winston thought to himself and he walks to Eve and lies next to her.
"I have to tell Lilly the truth but how can I? Maybe I can talk to Eve tomorrow and see what she thinks" Winston thought to himself and soon he falls asleep.
