Finn bolted up in bed, sweat dripping down his face, a curse on his lips. It was just a dream, he thought. Just a dream… Right?
He looked around his room. Everything seemed the same. But it was so real. So… horrifying. He could still remember the screeching of tires, the crushing of metal, the blood… Kurt's blood…
"Kurt!" he breathed. He flipped the covers off of his legs and jumped off the bed, heading towards the hall. He had to make sure. He had to see him, to feel him. He had to be alright. He just couldn't be dead.
Finn found himself in front of Kurt's bedroom door sooner than he had thought. He raised his hand to knock on the door, remembering how Kurt had chewed him out last time he'd just walked in, but hesitated. What if he was dead? What if it was real, and Kurt was gone?
He could do this. Finn took a sharp breath and rapped his knuckles against the door. He was silent as he waited. After a good minute and a half, he knocked again, louder and more desperately. His eyes filled with tears the longer he waited, and after five solid minutes, he started banging on the door with a fist.
He was too late. Kurt was gone, and Finn had to live the rest of his life knowing…
He rested his forehead against the wood, giving the door one last pound, as the pain got the best of him.
When the door started to open slowly, Finn was stunned. He leaned back, standing on his own, as Kurt, still half asleep, stood in front of him in nothing but an oversized shirt as he rubbed some sleep out of his eye.
"Finn?" he mumbled, voice sluggish with sleep. "What are you doing? Do you know what time it is?"
"Kurt…" Finn whispered. He couldn't believe his Kurt was there. Standing right in front of him. Alive.
"Look," Kurt murmured. "Is there a reason you're here? Or can I-"
Finn couldn't help it. He wrapped his arms around the smaller boy and hoisted him up, crashing their lips together. Kurt was alive! He was alive, and here and kissing him.
Finn barely noticed when Kurt wrapped his arms around his neck, and ran his fingers through his hair. All he could think about was that Kurt was still here. And Finn wasn't going to waste another second he had with him.
