Argumentum ex Silentio
The argument from silence (also called argumentum ex silentio in Latin) is generally a conclusion based on silence or lack of contrary evidence. 1
Sometimes it didn't seem to last more than a second.
How much could she trust in her own intuition? Apparently not enough, because she wouldn't deviate her sight towards him every time the feeling caught her.
They became accustomed to long lapses of silence which sometimes extended themselves for days. Somehow, they managed to feel at ease despite the lack of communication. None of them complained.
She chose not to question his reasons.
It was right then, however, when she used to sense it. That feeling which took her back to the day she crossed paths with a stranger, to the day she received a careless present from him, to the day her head rested towards the hand which threatened her to death afterwards.
It was a feeling of intrigue. Of wonder. Her questions were probably directed to God more than anyone else. Why would He choose this fate for her? Such opposites, such differences. No logical reason behind their encounter. Perhaps she hunted for the answer behind it. Behind the feeling she got when she sensed his lonesome sight on her back…and down her neck, at times.
She chose not to ask him why.
"Do you think we are being missed?" she did ask once. It seems she wasn't expecting an answer for she didn't feel surprised by the lack of it. Not even a stare. Perhaps it was all in her mind. She would like to think that they were being missed, though...

And what if there was a hint of truth in her assumption? And what if his reasons for following her lied behind those crucial moments of silence?
She still wondered though, why he slept with a gun under his pillow.
