Silent friend
Rose: I'm back. I know I have other stories and I'm working on them. In school, the teacher had us do a writing exercise and I came up with something like this. By the way this is Yami narrating. I never said his name in here. Do not own.
I would meet him at the park where I always went and he became a very good friend, although it was a strange friendship considering he never talked to me. However that never bothered me because I always talked to him and somehow I knew he was listening. He always stared straight ahead watching everything that was happening. I would meet him everyday at the same time, right after school let out. I would come to the park and he would be sitting there on the same bench. I would tell him about my day and he would always listen. I was always curious to know what he did during the day and night, but there was no point in asking him. As time went on, I noticed that he started getting paler. I asked him "Are you alright?" As expected he kept quiet but he left early. I started to get even more worried when he started coughing. "Maybe you should stay home." I told him.
Then one day he came to the park, he sat down and leaned his body on mine. It surprised me quite a bit. I quickly recovered. "You should be home. You are not well, " I said to him. He didn't move for few minutes. Then he reached into his pocket and took out a necklace that was in the shape of a bird. That's when I noticed he wasn't wearing the necklace that he usually wore. Before I could say anything he put the necklace around my neck, and, for the first time, he looked up at me and spoke to me. "You friend. Now won't forget about me."
"Why would I forget about you?" I asked him.
He shook his head "Yugi. My name is Yugi."
"Yugi," I repeat. That's right all this time I never knew his name. I shook my head "You never answered my question, Yugi. Why would I forget you?"
He just resumed his former position and rested his head on my shoulder, and, as always, watched the world go by. I gave up and just sat there, not saying a word. When the time came for me to go I felt scared and I didn't know why. As I turned to say goodbye he hugged me and I felt the need to hug him back. And so I did. We let go and, as I was walking away, I looked back and he was looking at me with sad, amethyst eyes. But he gave a small smile, waved, and said "Bye-bye."
That was the last time I saw him. Every time I went to the park after that he was never there. No mater how long I waited he never came.
Days went by and I never saw him again. Then one day I looked in the paper and I saw his face. Yugi Muto, 12 years old, dies in his sleep due to cancer. I stopped reading after the first sentence. Now I understood why he was acting so strangely. He probably knew he wouldn't live much longer. I went up to my room and closed the door. I walked up to my desk and took out the necklace that he gave me, its golden color shining in the light.
A few tears escaped my eyes before I could stop them. I didn't know him for very long but he quickly became my best friend. As I pulled myself together I put the necklace on. I know I will cherish it forever and I will go on with my life, as I know he would want me to.
That's the story. I was 16 then; I'm 22 now. Although I have moved forward, I visit the place were we used to meet every now and then. And I always wear the necklace he gave me.
Rose: I almost made myself cry with this. What do you think? plz R&R!
