"They're at it again, you know," a voice said unhappily, and Harry glanced up, confused until he saw Hermione standing there, glancing at the newspaper with a frown.
He turned back to the report he was reading, making a mental note about the glasses they had found on the scene and pushing his own further up his nose when he noticed they had slipped. "Who's at what again?" he asked her.
He heard her walk forward and sit in front of him, half focusing on her and half focusing on the report… if there were glasses, broken in seven pieces by the looks of the picture, then that meant there was probably one more person missing from the scene, since none of the people found dead had ever worn glasses… His thoughts were interrupted by the Daily Prophet being shoved over the report. He blinked at it and adjusted his glasses again as he lifted the paper to look at it better.
Death Eater Sighting in London Strikes Fear Into the Masses was the title that glared back at him, causing Harry's eyebrow to go up. He glanced at the author of the article, saw the name Rita Skeeter, and promptly dropped the paper into the trash bin next to him.
Hermione made a startled noise, and then asked, "You're not the least bit worried?"
"Nope," he replied, popping the p. "I would've heard something about that before now if it was a cause for concern. Besides, even if it's true, it must be individual people causing a racket. Nothing to really worry about. It's just more paperwork to file," he added regretfully, thinking of the piles and piles of paper no doubt sitting on his desk at the Ministry, and the file cabinets that were so empty- from his own neglect, not from lack of paper to fill them- even though they were really easy to fill.
Hermione sat back on her heels, glancing absent mindedly at the report that had reclaimed Harry's attention. "I suppose so," she agreed. "It just gets annoying."
He hummed his agreement, already thinking of all of the people connected to the crime and their likely hiding places, their friends, acquaintances, coworkers, and distant relatives, wondering who might be missing and why. After a while, Hermione stood and left, no doubt to investigate the source of the crash and the subsequent cry that came from upstairs and yell at the culprit. He heard his wife's voice echo from upstairs, and wondered where Ginny had been to reach the kids first. He dismissed the thought when Ron's voice replied, and Hermione screamed at him instead.
