He supposed it was appropriate. Two beings who had never quite fit in with the rest of civilized society wedding each other, on a day that only existed every four years. As individuals, and as a couple, they were the very definition of "unexpected", in so many ways.
Dressed smartly in a suit and tie expertly tailored by Garak, who had transmitted the measurements to Voyager the week before, he strode down the aisle. Miral Paris and Naomi Wildman stood on either side, tossing rose petals in his path, while the crew he had known and loved for seven years wiped tears of joy from their eyes.
Then he saw him. Waiting for him, at the end of the aisle, was one of the most glorious, incredible, and frankly, infuriating beings he had ever known. The love of his life was gazing with rapture at him, dressed in a lacy white gown reminiscent of 20th century Earth. The Doctor had protested, saying that they didn't have to go the traditional suit and dress route, especially since gender was a tricky thing for them both. But Q had insisted.
"As Captain of the U.S.S Voyager, it is my greatest pleasure to preside over this ceremony. I can't think of two individuals who deserve eternal happiness more." Captain Janeway was positively beaming. The Doctor snuck a glance at Q and discovered he was as well.
"Do you, Doctor, vow to accept Q, in omnipotence and orneriness, for as long as you both shall exist?" They had elected to change the wording up a little bit, seeing as Q was an immortal being and the Doctor would exist infinitely barring a major malfunction in his program, or intentional decompilation. He took a deep breath.
"I do."
"And do you, Q, vow to accept the Doctor, in disruptions and deviance, for as long as you both shall exist?"
"I do." Q intoned, as serious as the Doctor had ever heard him.
"I now pronounce you…man and Q." A sudden roar of applause drowned out Janeway's next words. "You may kiss now." She added.
And as his new life partner drew him in for a passionate kiss, the Doctor couldn't help, but think that he was truly the luckiest hologram in the galaxy.
