Prompt was J/D , poisoned apples
Fic: ==========-----+++++====
He wanted to tell Daniel not to ascend. Not to believe in the promises of things beyond human understanding.That was always Daniel's problem. Why he always got in trouble and needed rescuing. Daniel always believed there was more to know. That the chance to know more and be more than anyone else was worth the risk. Any risk.
Jack hated this about him. Hated this thing - the man's obsession with truth - every bit as much he loved the man himself.
He wanted to tell Daniel not to go. That he wouldn't really be free if he ascended. That for all they knew, it wasn't nearly what it was cracked up to be. It was like taking the poison apple, Jack thought. You eat it, and you become someone else. And in your mind you might be dreaming of the most wonderful things, but to those you leave behind, you might as well be sealed up and dead in an unreachable glass box.
Some part of Jack's mind knows there is no choice. He'll die if he doesn't ascend.
But some part of Jack just wants to scream 'don't do it, Daniel. You don't need to taste what the other side is like.'
Some part of Jack wants to beg Daniel not to leave.
But Jack knows there are no fairy tale endings. Not for him and Daniel. Probably not even for earth.
So he silences himself. And he holds on to the fact that the poisoned apple will be far sweeter to Daniel than this reality ever was.
