It wasn't like Izuku to approach his classmates on his own often. As well as he got along with a lot of his classmates, he also kept to himself a lot. All of the friends that he'd made thus far had, in one way or another, come to him first and he wasn't really the best at changing that. He would be the first to admit that he could be a nervous wreck when dealing with others, especially the girls in his class. It was therefore very odd for him to be approaching the class Vice President, Momo Yaoyorozu.
He had bad been watching her often. She had a powerful quirk, was the smartest person in class, and was a very good strategist. He had admired her since the beginning, even if he never approached her. That's why he was able to notice a change in her behavior. Ever since the sports festival, she had seemed more hesitant than she ever was before. She had lost confidence in herself and Izuku couldn't stand watching it any longer.
Yaoyorozu was still at her desk, moving slowly as she put away her things. Most of the class had already left. Izuku had to force himself to approach her before he lost his chance. Taking a deep breath, he walked to the back of the class.
"U-um, Yaoyorozu," He said nervous.
She smiled when she looked up, but unlike the other smiles he'd seen her display, this one seemed weighted down with sadness. "Yes, Midoriya? Did you have a question?"
"Um... I... I wanted to a-ask you if you were okay?"
Surprise lit up her features. "What makes you ask?"
"W-well," Izuku looked down as he explained. "E-ever since the sports festival you've seemed r-really down. You he-hesitate in training exercises more than before and..." He looked up to meet her gaze. "I... I know what it's like to lose confidence in yourself. So, I can tell."
The barely veiled sadness in her eyes came to the surface before she looked down. "Is it that obvious?" She asked.
"I-I wouldn't say that it was obvious," He told her.
She sighed. "My loss in the sports festival has weighed on my mind a lot. I got into U.A. on recommendation, so I've never had to prove that I belong here. The sports festival was the first chance I had to stand on my own feet and I failed completely. I lost before I even got the chance to try. It's pathetic."
"Y-you're not pathetic!" He exclaimed. She looked up at him with wide, surprised eyes. "You're one of the most amazing people in class! Your quirk is one of the most versatile that I've ever seen and you're the smartest person in class. You look after everyone and even though you're Vice President, a lot of people look up to you even more than they do Iida." He blushed as he realized he'd said more than he intended to in his outburst and he look down. Despite that, he still added, "I-I... really admire you, Yaoyorozu."
Yaoyorozu was similarly blushing as she looked at him. "I... I never knew that you felt that way Midoriya."
"I-I don't think you have any reason to feel bad," He told her. "W-we all have to work hard to do as well as we think we should. N-nobody does their best when they feel p-pressured."
She smiled at him and it was the soft, sweet smile that he was used to. The sadness from earlier seemed to have vanished and he felt unbelievably relieved by it. "Thank you, Midoriya. I really needed to hear that."
He returned her smile, though his was a little more nervous than her own. "L-let's both do our best, okay?"
"Okay," She answered. "We'll do our best.
