au: In which he would do anything for his brother.
So I heard this song Servant of Evil and fell in love and just had to make quick drabble for Klaus and Elijah. Bits of onesided Carlijah and teeny bits of onesided Klaroline~ NOT A SUMMER GIRL FIC.
Elijah never questioned his role in life.
He was the older brother.
The protector.
The servant.
No matter that he was born first, it was his younger brother who claimed the throne. Klaus ruled, and Elijah served. It had been lain out for them the day they had been born. Klaus was king. Elijah was servant.
And both liked it this way.
Klaus is a cruel king, made so by their oppressive father and an unloving mother. He commands war where it is not needed, and takes and takes and takes. Elijah stands by, and waits for orders.
They each have their place.
Elijah loves his brother, despite the cruel things that have been done. He forgives him for killing their family, one by one. He hurts, but he smiles though it all because he is to serve.
He cannot forget.
Once, Elijah falls in love. He and Klaus travel to a neighboring kingdom, a potential ally if they can convince the new king. He sees her as he's walking, dismissed from his duties for the day.
His breath is taken away.
She shines like the sun, with a smile that could melt the coldest hearts and eyes that could pierce through your soul. His heart aches and his entire being longs. She spots him, where he is frozen, and she presents him with her dazzling smile.
He doesn't approach.
She is followed closely by a young female knight, one that Elijah soon recognizes as the middle of triplet sisters. The last one left, because of his brother. She leads away the shining girl, and he watches them go.
He wants to follow.
Elijah decides he shall look for her after he is relieved from his duty each day they are there. That becomes unessecary when it is discovered she lives within the castle in which they are guests. Her name is Caroline an she is the king's fiance.
He won't show disappointment.
Elijah is not the only one who notices her. Klaus wants her the moment he lays eyes on her, but she rejects him politely. This does not bode well with the cruel king. Elijah notices a change in his brother's demeanor as they prepare to journey home.
He has no idea what is to come.
Klaus requests they speak alone. He tells Elijah that their won't be an alliance, and that he has a request. As a servant, he can only obey.
He has no choice after all.
Klaus tells him to kill the future queen to 'send a message' that he has been displeased. Elijah can hardly understand why. He wants to to deny it, to disobey.
But he never questions it.
He waits for her to be alone so he can approach her. She invites him with that sweet smile, so innocent and trusting. He smiles back, touches her cheek, and drives his blade through her heart.
He sheds tears.
Elijah wishes to hold her, to mourn her. But that is not his right, for he took her life. He was the servant of evil, and he was not allowed to grieve.
He leaves.
Klaus and he return to their home, witch a new enemy on their trail. They've come for Klaus' life, and he is ready for it. Elijah, however, is not.
He loves his brother.
Elijah may be angry, and he may be hurt, but this is his master, and he is the servant. Klaus is his family and family is above all. Always and forever.
He will sacrifice himself.
Elijah helps his brother, his king, to escape. He himself awaits the enemy king's army. It is led by the female knight whom he saw guarding Caroline. He smiles at her, and learns her name is Elena, and she is going to kill him.
He will gladly accept this.
They drag him out into the streets, for all the kingdom to see. Klaus is among them, well hidden. He cries silent tears as Elena beheads his brother, his servant, his protector.
He knows that it is his fault.
He doesn't question it.
