Author's Note

So this is a new project from me, and it's very different from anything I've ever done.

Basically this started when I wanted to write a fic about a character starting at Beauxbatons, and after a couple of Google searches it occurred to me that JK Rowling left every other magical school pretty blank apart from what they were called and some basic information about them.

Which got me started on wondering how each school would work and how it would differ. What is their history? What are their houses - do they have any? What do they look like? How would students be sorted?

So this is my idea of how different wizarding schools would work. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Each chapter will be a different aspect of the school, and hopefully I can get onto dissecting all of them!

School Coat of Arms

The Beauxbatons coat of arms consists of two golden wands crossed over one another, each shooting three stars in front of a pale blue background. The coat of arms is gilded in silver vines and flowers.

Uniform

Male

The male uniform is made up of dark grey slacks, a grey silk vest, and a powdered blue dress shirt in the same shade as the girls' uniform. Males are expected to wear dark brogues or oxford shoes with a wooden heel. In formal occasions, boys will wear a blazer identical to the girls' and also a brimmed felt navy hat. While travelling, boys are permitted to wear a dark blue cashmere cloak.

Female

The female students of Beauxbatons must wear a silk knee length dress with long sleeves, buttons, and a collar. The dress is fitted in the stomach and waist and free flows from the waist down. Students must wear semi-opaque dark tights with heeled or flat blue brogues. For formal occasions, students will wear a pale blue blazer with royal blue lining on the edges, female students will also wear a curved cone shaped hat or beret. When travelling, female students are permitted to wear a silk blue travelling cloak, lined in cashmere.

Both male and female students wear brooches pinned to their left breast with their house's coat of arms. The Student Council members may wear their badges beneath their house badge. Only brown messenger bags, satchels, briefcases, and backpacks made of leather are appropriate school bags.

An Overview of the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic

Founded in 11th Century, summer 1264 – the founders were heavily influenced by the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in Great Britain.

The founders of Beauxbatons wanted to create a safe place for young French witches and wizards to learn how to harness their magic and control it. They began by teaching classes in their own regions and their classes quickly gained popularity.

In 1262 work began on the Beauxbatons Chateau in the Pyreneese – funded by Estienne Flamel.

In 1264, Beauxbatons officially opened and in August of that year, took its first intake of students. The school quickly grew in size and recognition. And it is now one of the most prestigious wizarding schools in the wizarding world.

Beauxbatons is known for being one of the most innovative schools in the world and takes great pride in emphasising their teaching of the arts and of the natural world. Co-founder Cateline Flamel pioneered the arts and music classes while the husband of Blanchefleur Allard – Crespine Allard – taught the first syllabus for magical students on non-magic people's history and anthropology.

Students started off being predominantly French and eventually Spanish, Portuguese, Belgian, Dutch, and Luxmebourgian students started applying and attending the academy. There are a small number of British and Scandinavian students each year.

Beauxbatons takes part in an exchange program with the Durmstrang Institute – where they send three of their top students away to experience the Durmstrang schooling system for a period of three months.
