"But Flounder, I need this." Ariel whined, eyes sparkling as she turned a large black object in her hands. Suddenly she got the idea to place it on her head. The top compartment flopped over her face as the boot fell off.
"Oh, what's so special about it anyway?" Her friend complained. The red head, as usual, didn't hear.
"I wonder who it belonged to…." She murmured longingly. She was prone to daydreaming while searching ship wrecks for treasure. Just then, a giant shadow passed the waters above. Picking up the boot and holding it tight to her breast, Ariel swam up to investigate while Flounder ranted on about being good and staying home. He panicked and followed her as her leave finally became apparent.
Up on the surface, Eric's birthday ship floated along merrily. Sailors danced to a jaunty tune, the guest of honor himself leaning over the side of the ship as a young boy approached him. Jim Hawkins was currently serving time on the planet to learn of earth ships. He longed for the stars, but the waves calmed his nerves almost as well.
As Ariel surfaced and came to rest on the side of the ship, the first being she spotted through a porthole was Max, Eric's dog. Then she saw a splendid pair of black boots. Curious, the girl leaned a little further in to make out Eric's entire frame, dancing around with his flute. What a beautiful creature! She thought. Looking to the object she held in her arms, the two on the creature's feet almost matched.
"Come on, join me Jim!" Eric called to the gloomy teenager. He placed a hand behind his neck uncomfortably, trying to come up with an excuse. The slightly older prince would have none of it and swept the boy into a very comical dance. When both were worn out, Jim unceremoniously slumped on the railing. Just then the boot on his left foot began to morph into a small pink blob.
"Morph?" Jim exclaimed, letting the little guy lick his fingers. "What did you do with my other boot, you rascal?" He laughed. Looking over, he almost didn't notice the red-head pulling quickly away from the side of the ship and disappearing into the sea. But he did, and so he approached the porthole cautiously. She was completely gone. Yet there, where she'd been, sat his left boot.
{A/N}: Ha. Ha. Fail. I told myself I couldn't correctly portray these characters. I told myself, and yet... R&R ;)
