Chapter 1
Zuko had finally set out to find his mother. He still couldn't believe she was alive, and banished just as he was! It was wonderful, but ironic that his mother had shared the same punishment as he had. A cruel and unfair punishment that neither of them had deserved. Not once throughout his search around the world for the Avatar did he cross her path. If he had known that she was alive, he would've spent his time searching for her instead. His mother was the reason he had been allowed to remain alive in the fire nation after his father, Ozai, and spoken out against Firelord Azulon. In retaliation of his son's disrespect Azuon ordered a cruel thing that he thought fit: Zuko's death. His mother had saved him from that by leaving the Fire Nation, forever.
Zuko was busy thinking all of this when a large wave made the ship lurch suddenly, and he snapped out of his daydreams. He immediatey sank into a fighting stance, waiting for Azula to come bounding onto the ship firing lightning bolts of fury from her fists. However, Azula was lockedaway in a prison somewhere where Zuko would hopefully never have to see her face again.
It was not Azula who had boarded the ship, it was a few close friends. Katara, Aang, Toph, and Sokka made their way toward Zuko. Each of them wore a grumpy face.
"Why didn't you tell us you were leaving, Zuko?" Katara chided. Toph looked at Zuko, her pale green eyes sizing him up, "What do you think you're doing leaving us behind? You're useless by yourself!". Sokka glance at Toph, then Zuko, "Oh come on, he's not that useless," he said, trying to lighten the mood.
"I'm sorry, I just thought this was something I had to do alone," Zuko confided. "Aang, aren't you going to say anything?" Zuko questioned.
"I always thought I had to do things alone too, that no one could help me. Being the avatar made me responsible of so much.." Aang reminisced. "I guess what I'm trying to say is, I understand why you left".
Zuko smiled slightly as he looked out into the open ocean. Suddenly he looked at the four of them, "How did you guys get here anyway?".
"...Well," the four friends shared a smile, "a few friends helped us out." Aang smiled brightly.
The four of the turned to looked at the ocean over the opposite side if the ship. Zuko followed their lead and saw a school of elephant koi slowly fading into the distance as they went back to their home.
"Why didn't you just take Appa?" Zuko asked Aang.
"Well, Appa is visiting Guru Pathik. I woke up and found a note from him saying that he and Appa were going on an adventure".
The captain of the ship interupted them, "Firelord, your Uncle has sent you a message," he said handing Zuko a rolled up parchment.
Be safe on your journey, Zuko. Remeber everything I have taught you. Now that you and the avatar are friends, it would be wise to ask for his help. Do not let your pride get in the way! Love, Uncle.
When Zuko was finished reading he realized that his four friend were leaning over him reading the letter, Toph couldn't read it though of course.
"Wow, your Uncle really knows his stuff!". Sokka laughed.
"Where are we headed Zuko?". Katara questioned.
"Some place we've been before,...Kyoshi Island". Zuko felt the wind whip across his face as he looked out at the water. He would find her. He would search the entire world until he found her, just like he did with Aang.
