Bella's POV

It was an unusually hot night in Forks. So, naturally, I had Edward come over to keep me cool. I snuggled further into his icy chest and sighed at the cooling sensation.
I was just about to fall asleep when I heard rustling at the foot of my bed.
My eyes snapped open. No! It couldn't be!
"What's wrong, love?" Edward asked me, stroking my hair.
I didn't respond. The rustling got louder. I knew that sound anywhere! Please don't let it be so! Then I felt something crawling up my leg.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
I jumped up out of Edward's arms and tot the top of the bed. If I'd gone any further, I'd be on the wall. Literally.
"Bella? Bella, what's wrong?" Edward asked, worriedly.
I saw it crawling on the bed. Approaching me.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Thank goodness Charlie was doing the night shift at work. He might have had a heart attack at the last shriek.
"Bella? Bella, love?" Edward was absolutely beside himself at this point.
"What's going on?"
I could barely get the word out. "Ro-ro-ro-"
"What, Bella, what?"
"ROACH!"
In a matter of seconds, the room light was on.
Then the disgusting roach was off of my bed and in Edward's hands. I was shocked that he picked it up.
Then, without any warning, he started chuckling. Not just chuckling, but plain out laughing!
"This is what caused you to have a near aneurysm? A roach?" Then he just burst out laughing again.
"It's NOT funny!" I couldn't believe he was actually laughing at me. "Those things are one of the reasons I wanted to leave Phoenix in the first place!"
"Okay, okay. My apologies." I could tell he was hiding a smile.
once he'd settled down some, he walked over to the window and promptly threw it out.
I slowly sunk back into my bed, still a little shaken.
"Calm down, Bella! It was just a roach." Just a roach! The ignorance!
"It's disgusting!" I retorted.
"Please! So you mean to tell me that you can sleep in the same bed with a vampire almost every night, but one little roach appears and you run for the hills? That's pure comedy, right there!" He laughs again.
I pouted. "I'm so glad you find my most paralyzing fear amusing!"
He sat next to me again.
"I'm sorry, love. Really I am. It's just," he muffled another chuckle. "I learn something new about you every day. You are absolutely fascinating!"
He stroked my hair again.
"What I would give to just see into that mind of yours for even one day…"
I snuggled into his chest again, about ready to pass out.
"Don't you worry, love. I will always protect you from anything. Whether it's a blood-thirsty vampire…or even a roach!"
I fell asleep in my hero's arms. I knew as long as I was next to him, I wouldn't need to worry about another roach ever again!
