I made the deadline! I made it! I MADE IT! Aw yeh!
And, I don't ship Velvet and Ruby, I just needed someone to be a previous relationship and Bunny ex machina came into my mind first.
I browsed some random section in the florist's shop casually, trying not to look like I was newly single. Velvet Scarlatina, the love of my life, was dead. Dead in a car crash. Dead and rain cascaded down outside, and I looked out at it with a sad smile, knowing that no matter what, that Velvet wasn't coming back.
I turned to go, and bumped into the white-haired shop assistant. I tripped. The woman scoffed, and offered the redhead her hand. "Dolt." She muttered under her breath.
I winced at the insult, but gratefully took the hand of the woman (Whom I had nicknamed "Ice Queen" in my head) and apologized. "Oh my goodness, are you alright?"
She appeared to be restraining herself from seriously maiming me, which seemed to be an incredible ordeal for her. "Yes. I'm fine." Ice Queen exhaled through her nose, curling her hands into fists. "Do you require any assistance?" She asked. Now, I'm pretty socially awkward, so I wouldn't have known to say a polite 'No thank you' and be on my way. I blinked back tears, and said "What flowers do you put near headstones?" Ice Queen's expression of murderous rage vanished, and it became one of pity and sorrow. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
I waved a hand, silencing her. "It's fine. I just want to get her something. For Valentine's Day. I'm sorry, Miss, uh," I glanced at her name tag. Weiss. "Miss Weiss."
"Just call me Weiss." Okay, I'd call her Weiss.
"So, Weiss, what flowers do you want for a headstone?"
Weiss led me through a series of racks, filled with daffodils and daises, and a bunch of other flowers that I don't and never will know the names of.
She rifled through the racks methodically, and in a flash had a bouquet of white roses, red roses, daffodils, lavender, and poppies. I gasped, covering my mouth. It was gorgeous. The colours transitioned together perfectly. Velvet would have loved it. I know I did. She handed the bouquet of white roses to me, and I laughed in delight and giddiness. Velvet was smiling upon me from Heaven above, I was sure of it. She'll love it! I told myself. I just know she will.
Weiss handed me a small card and trotted over to a cash register in the corner, one I hadn't noticed before. I pulled a twenty-dollar bill and some loonies out of my pocket, but stopped when she rummaged through a tip jar, and took out enough to pay for the bouquet. She took out a slip of paper, and wrote something down. What it was, I couldn't see. She put the money inside the register, and walked back over to me and stuffed the piece of paper inside the crimson rose. "That should cover the cost."
"I, uh… Thank you."
Weiss shook her head. "Don't mention it." My day was looking up.
As I left the florist's shop, waving to Weiss, my heart skipped a beat, seeing that the Ice Queen was blushing a little. Velvet would want me to move on. The logician in me said. She said so herself. I said so myself. I blushed, thinking that maybe what Weiss had written on the paper was a love note, or maybe even a message. I stopped, and delicately opened the petals of a red rose, and unfurled the paper.

You know, Weiss, I think we will. I think we will.
Ah, Valentine's Day. Chocolate. Flowers. The anniversary of Pyrrha's death. Yup. Ain't that sad? Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little ficlet, and that you leave the tiny kindness of a review.
